Mark, my understanding is the sensor is part way "up" the tank (actually I believe the tank has 2 levels) so you have to put enough in to get to the sensor level before it will record the fuel....so the bottom of the tank is only an estimate based on fuel consumption

the wonders of "german" engineering never cease to amaze me... here's a few other genius ideas:
- no (easy to get to) manual release for the trunk
- no lock for the passenger door
- the rear windshield wiper
- and i know i'm forgetting 1-2 others that have posed a problem for me in the past
