Help with CEL code....

I got the infamous CEL after starting the car 3 days ago. Today I took it to my local shop and he said it read P123, but he also said that it stated "secondary air pump system". He said that he believes it could be something to do with the smog system. He also said that he could not find P123 in the computer and that he found P418 as the code that dealt with the secondary air pump system. The car drives fine and he reset the CEL. It's a '01 TT. Any help will be appreciated.
I'm pending CA smog test, so I need to get this resolved. Thanks for any input.

sounds like faulty diverter valves. Try replacing them and the f hose. Good luck.

Check the vacuum port on the top of the BOVs. This is the code you get when the line is venting to the atmosphere. The line rubs through causing it to leak.

RESQ911.. if you're able to make the trek down to Fremont, I've got a PST2 and can give you more info on what it is/might be if you like... I can also make sure it's in the "readyness" state (the screen has to show happy faces) for SMOG after that. If you reset it the CEL you'll still need to wait until the car is in "ready" status for smog.

If you clear the code and it comes on in the first 20 seconds of cold start up then it is the BOV line What the hell is readiness status We don't have that here.

Don't you start That readiness state thing is such a polava really... Although I see their point. If it wasn't for that then I guess everyone with an OBDII scanner could clear their codes like 5 seconds before the test....

Sounds good as I said in the Email, I can't put that wing on this week (working like mad) and the tool hasn't been returned yet but I can scan the car anytime....
