GT700 Installed!!!
Let me start by expressing my sincere thanks to Alex and James at Shark Werks for performing my Extreme Makeover. These guys are professional, courteous, thorough, fanatical, pleasant, etcetera! I would have no hesitation in recommending Shark Werks for your next 996tt modification. And no, I was not paid!! Well, I got a t-shirt.
Early in October I drove my car 1,000 miles (phew!) from Vancouver to Shark Werks in Fremont and left it there for ten days, during which time they installed the EVOMS GT700 power package with Stage 3(?) clutch; new flywheel and clutch slave; ShiftLink and short-shift; Bilstein PSS9’s; and the ClubSport brakes. Installation was top-notch.
I should note that the V-Flow was not installed because Sharky determined during testing that my car, unfortunately, is a “MAF-Eater.” I am therefore running my stock airbox and observing development of a solution to the MAF Issue with much interest.
The shifter now feels wonderfully tight, short and positive. I dare say that the clutch, although “grabbier,” is easier than the stocker. Subjectively the pedal feels lighter, and engagement does not feel as high/late on the pedal.
The PSS9 system offers a great ride and improved handling, and also more than effectively manages the car’s stock handling foibles without radical adjustments to stiffness or height. I’m sitting an attractive 1.25 inches lower than stock, with the nose raked downward. It more than fills my needs.
The ClubSport brakes offer far more communicative pedal feel and obviously greater stopping power. They also fill in my albeit stock front wheels nicely.
Finally…the GT700 system. I wish I had more to report at this time but the 1,000 mile drive home (phew) was quite responsible out of respect for fledgling clutch and brakes. Not to mention, traffic and RAIN in Washington and BC. Nonetheless, 5th-gear roll-ons were exhilarating as I breathed on the throttle and effortlessly squashed anybody clogging the passing lane, the big Garretts spooling up like afterburners over my shoulder. Squirts in 4th gear = wow. The upshot? While loping along in top gear, fuel mileage was at least as good as stock. In all circumstances, the car runs...better. Great tuning by GIAC.
At the end of my homeward journey last night, I took my home freeway exit and finally had nobody around me. It’s pouring rain but what the heck. Down to Third and hard on the gas. The acceleration was immediate and vicious. The sound? Hmmm. You know your buddy in college who could down an entire beer without even gulping? My car now sounds like it does the same thing, only with air and fuel. 996 just opens his throat and bellows “PASS ME THE FUNNEL!!!” I laughed into the night sky like a maniacal elf. I walked through the front door with bloodshot eyes and a schoolboy grin. My wife rolled her eyes. “Oh, great…I’m a Porsche Turbo Widow.”
Installation pictures at eleven. Kill stories to follow in due course. Praying for dry roads.
If you're thinking about the GT700, just bite the bullet. It's indescribable. Thank you EVOMS, thank you Sharky.

I thought about the V-flow as well, but with several threads pointing to blown MAF, I thought it was safer to stay with a K&N Filter. Not one single problem. Bravo Alex!

I feel for the wife, really I do. Mine can roll her eyes 360 degrees by now... I know there were a few different versions of the clutch (now the stage III) over the past couple of years but they've really nailed it on this one. The object was to try and keep it as docile as possible yet it can handle upwards of 800. I've got a CD of all the pix for you and I'll send those out (I'll put up a project page too). Talk about a project sleeper!
