Current pricing on used turbos

I'm trying to get an idea on current pricing, just to make sure I don't overpay. The numbers I see quoted at KBB, NADA, dealer lots, private party, etc. vary so much I'm not sure what's what. Obviously if I buy from a dealer they are going to charge more than a private party, but still the numbers are all over the place. I'm probabably looking for a 2001-2002 ... so that should be around 90-100ish right? My local dealer has a 2001 with 5k miles for 98 and several 2003 ranging in price from 118 to 135. Are these prices decent for a dealer? I don't buy and sell too many cars so I have to ask ... what's the best way to go about doing this? Buy from a dealer, or private party, or ?? This will be a "step up" for me so the more money I can save the more money I'll have for mods. Any tips or strategies for getting a "good deal" would be most appreciated.

There is an absolutely mint silver 2001 with 5000 miles at Manhattan Motorcars and they will take around 90. I saw it yesterday and Dr. Bill has the hook-up with the GM and I've got his # if you are interested. He told us Turbo prices WILL start to rise b/c coupe production is almost done and no new Turbos will be built for a few years. Buy quickly! If you are going to do some mods, then buy one that already has something you want and you'll save big. Look at eBay and contact any seller directly, don't bid. Look in AutoWeek classifieds also as there are many there. Good luck.

I shop Porsches all the time for fun. Bought my '03 TT from a dealer in Texas before the TT market crashed for $ 110,000. At the time TT were getting top dollar in our market. My advice: shop Texas. Good luck.

All TT buyers know of the upcoming new model, and I disagree with you and the GM (his opinion is biased - he's a car salesman!) that prices will rise. Everyone thought that they would starting in December because only a small number of '04's were made, but it didn't happen. Residuals for leases fell to almost nothing, and the market for the seller is really soft. If you see ebay listings, you will notice that most are relisted time and time again, with lowered reserves. I know of probably a dozen '02 and '03 turbos that have been on the market at least 3 months. The market is not going to rise on turbos, I bet, and I doubt Porsche will wait as long as they are saying with the introduction fo the turbo in the new model, as they didn't do so with the Cayenne, nor will they on the prototype I just saw in Long Beach. It's a proven engine, not a new technology for them - the 996 was delayed because it was a new engine (new cooling system). Nobody is falling for this 'buy now because prices are going to stabilize/rise' b.s. that is coming from dealers - it's not happening, and won't happen.

My advice, look as long as you need to in order to find the right one. Those mentioned above are ridiculously expensive according to the market price - must be shopping Rusnak Pasadena or a similar dealer who isn't in touch with the market value.

When looking at 2001 TTs make sure to check the manufacture date. MY 2001 started in early 2000 and ended in July 2001.

You might have a car that is 4 years old if you get unlucky or a car that is 2 1/2 years old if you buy a July 2001 production car.

Price should take into consideration not only condition and mileage but on a 2001 TT also the production date,

Check the driver's side doorjam for production date.

Teutonictrio, what you are saying is JYO like what I said. It's my personal feeling and not based upon what the GM or any dealer has said. While prices may not rise appreciably, the supply of cars available may shrink as anyone who wants one has to buy used. All of this is speculation and unless you are waiting for the perfect car & deal, you should act if something comes along. Otherwise you may have passed on things that were better and will be spending more time not having the car. Anyone who tries to perfectly time the bottom of any market is taking a chance.

Prices will neither rise nor stabilize, they will continue to fall - albeit slowly. Do not believe your local dealer.

Silver-Star has a mint turbo in stock (not my old one). A 2002 Seal Grey that is Porsche Certified (extended warranty). Give them a call, I'm sure you can work out a nice deal.

Yeah, I live in north Dallas area so I'll try to stick close to home. Any particular dealers that you found were "better" than others?

Nice, and it's black too. That's the only color for me - all my cars have always been black. I'll take a closer look...
