Purchase of GT2
Purchase of GT2
Hi All,
Sorry about the above posts, but I am having a problem editing...here is the whole story.
I am very new to the Porsche community and would like some advice.
I am a college prof and hence have never been able to afford a porsche with the power level I desire, although I have always admired them. I do, however, have a Mustang and a modified 2006 G35 which I was planning to TT to 560rwhp.
My friend, a CEO for a major financial corporation however, is able to afford the Porsche experience. In fact, he owns a modified 2002 GT2 w/ exhaust, header, clutch, larger Garret turbos ets. The car has dynoed at 600 rwhp and has only 2800 miles on it. It is fantastic.
Sadly, my friends wife has fallen ill, and she cannot ride in his GT2 and has infact begun to develop a phobia of the car, so he, being the consumate gentleman, does not drive the car much anymore (and hence the 2800 miles).
He knows that I am about to sink 30 plus K into an engine build and TT into my G35 (I will have nearly 80 by the time I am done) and has suggested that instead I purchase his gt2. I responded that I surely cannot come close to the purchase price plus 70K in upgrades he has sunk into it, but he is willing to sell it to me for 100K. He claims that he could get 140K for it but doesn't want to go through the hassle. Please keep in mind that he is an exceptional person and 40k for him is only a few weeks salary. I doubt he is bullshooting me.
However for me, 100 K is a very big deal. Nonetheless, it is a very good price for this car, yes? And my G35 is the perfect DD.
So my question is, just how good of a deal am I getting, and if I get into a bind, will the car be difficult to sell (to be honest, I am falling in love w/ the car and would like to keep it forever).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

$100k for a low mileage GT2 is a really good deal. The target marked is somewhat limited due to the modified nature, but it is still a really good deal. If you pass it up.. please be sure to hook me up
DO IT and do not think twice. You say your G35 is a DD but you want to turbo and build the motor, not only is it a bad idea and waste of money, you threw "DD" out of the window, believe me I KNOW!
Ive been in the VQ scene for quite some time, and why i went on to M3 and 996TT instead of doing a crazy project on my G35, and i kept it as a true daily driver. If you can get that deal again, try and swing it!

I think it would be a wise investment, as those cars will eventually appreciate in value, think of it that way. But please just buy the car!
By the way, I apologize for my previous post, consider it retracted.

i say only buy it if you plan on using it......i would think that you are a schmuck if you buy it with the thoughts of potentially flipping it and making money off of the deal........somehow, I don't think that you would do that though.
you can offer to buy it from him and let him know ahead of time that you may sell it in shortly if the cost of ownership proves too much. indiacte that if it is sold, you will be giving him back most of the profits if any. firm believer of what goes around, comes around. but your friend will probably just tell you not to worry about it and keep any change you make
i'd say go for it - you've got nothing to lose sounds like

Go for it. That car is probably worth 110K+. It's a good deal especially if you know the car's history. Look at it this way, if you sink 30K into a G35 it's almost certainly never going to come back. Of course the Porsche will also depreciate, but it will take some time for it go down 30K. Not to be rude, but IMO dumping 30K into a G35 is a waste of money. It will never run right and won't last long if it does. You would be better off with an EVO or even a BMW 335 which are designed as turbos to begin with and can take a little more boost.
Finally, if money is that tight, why not look into a TT? You can get clean example for 70K, save 30K and still have 90% of the trackability and 99% of the streetability. These cars are generally less expensive in the Nov-Feb timeframe.
If you do get this or any modified Turbo car. I strongly recommend getting the car dyno tuned (or review dyno sheets) to make sure the car is running proper A/F mixtures.
