Thanks so much for the dyno. At the risk of offending the RUF faithful, I think this puts to bed once and for all the notion that RUF is magically faster than other tuners. At least in my mind. They WERE obviously first to market with a very nice product that was years ahead of it's time and they get many Kudos for that and their legendary name and resale value.

While I have nothing against Vivid, I can offer that some their posts have had too much of an advertorial spin with sometimes unbelieveable power gains. There I said it.

That said, I think Dan has definitely gotten the message and IMO is a great contributor. He doesn't deserve the continued attacks.

yellowturbo is infamous around these parts

Thats around 370-375 at the wheels. But one of their customers added dv's (non-performance mod), and exhaust, and an aftermarket air filter and gets 450.

Now suddenly it dynos 450 to the wheels? Im not saying that this car doesnt put 450 to the wheels, I actually hate horsepower arguments, but I've owned a tt for 4 1/2 years, and have followed the tuning of just about every company out there, but "their cars" seem to have unreal power upgrades for they have done to them. Why did I pay all that money for my GIAC flash if I could have got the same results with an air filter and some dv's?
I do agree that Vivid's posts have been a bit too commercial in the past (as I have directly indicated in one of my previous posts), but in this particular case, it's interesting.

Also, a stock turbo s doesn't necessarily have 450HP (or 445HP). The fact of the matter is that we know it is 'approximately' 450HP but I'm sure there are tolerances within Porsches process. I've heard the number 10% being thrown around. that's 405-495hp range right there if that's true. There also isn't a standard dyno or a standard way to dyno...so let's not take any sort of numbers too seriously. 500HP vs 480HP...who can actually can tell the difference?

Well, it's a little suspect when a K24 car with NO Flash dynos the same as a Ruf550...

The 6speedonline 1/4 mile E.T and Trap Speed list put that notion (i.e., myth) to bed a while ago. And I trust the big, black dyno more than any chassis dyno.

Thats really interesting, could you elaborate a bit more, id love to hear some more what does low clearance mean?

Low clearance means a tight .003 clearance between the turbo housing and the wheel, as oposed to .009 stock for a stock KKK turbo. They are just shy of the zero clearance and as such do not require the demanding break-in proceedure. It is simply a tighter tolerance making a more efficient turbo. Again, this is what I am told and based on my 1/4 mile times (which are posted on six speed), it makes sense, as I have demonstrated Ruf 550 power with these turbos. Adam, I am not trying to bash Ruf, just sharing what I was told by a well respected US tuner. I like Ruf, Joe has been to my home and I have met Alois and Estonia. Great people, fantastic company.

Dan,
the Lapis blue car with the Technos looks like a graph that would represent
AFTER the flash and mods NOT BEFORE???
Did you ever post the after on that blue car???
If it had the same HP as the RUF 550 with only having DV and exhuast I'll
eat (somebody's) my hat!!!
Also, please take a good digital pic of those turbos on the RUF showing the
#'s stamped into them, then we can identify if K-16 or K-24 based.
Thanks for all your info, I also think it is good for discussion and seeing the
Goliaths pile on top of you reminds me of what people did to Neil Orton
(my friend) ANYTIME he tried to post ANY KIND of results. And now that
I bring it up, His PSI 550 (He no longer sells PSI Products), had more power
than either of these cars show, but people said the curve was screwed up or
anything else to trip him up or discredit him---sickening approach if you ask
me!

Oh, I have had Dinner at Luis's "Mill House", but I still do not know
what a 520 kit is versus 550 RUF kit...

Dan, you should try and get as many of your Porsche cutomers as you can (along with your car) to come out to our drag on the 2nd. It will be a blast and people from all over the country will be here for some fun. The track is local and we will have it all to ourselves so all will get more than enough runs! This way, we can see how these cars trap and hopefully we can add a few more cars to the 1/4 and trap speed lists.

Here is a video of the car on the Dyno. We did the runs with a fan on the intake and without. No much of a difference at all.

On the 1st. page of this thread I posted a photo of a turbo from my Ruf 550 conversion. The numbers on the housing are pretty visible, looks like K24's to me but I don't know what all the numbers mean. I don't see the number 16 anywhere but 24 is clearly visible. I don't really care, the car is plenty fast for me and it has given me absolutely no problems.
