Thanks again, much appreicated.

Adam, sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought you were being a sarcastic . Supossedly a Ruf turbo was disected to learn what they were doing to make such fast cars. You know the saying "Imitation is the best form of flattery"...

Interesting about the "Ruf" modified K16 turbos - I have a TechArt modified car/engine and it has "moded" turbos - K16 - to produce 550hp (not at the rear I'm sure). Stands to reason Ruf and TechArt are pretty much on the same page w/ mods - they both are well connected w/ the factory too - and share engineers although they do not talk much about this openly. I've not run against a Ruf car (520 or 550) but would love to some time to see how they compare.
Also find it interesting I have not read much about TechArt moded cars/engines here - seems most folks are just buying TechArt "cosmetic" parts.

Hi michael,

I spent 9 months at the ruf factory last year, and all of my summer there this year, and i can safely say the two companies share nothing. (personnel, ideas etc etc)

all the best

If this X50 dyno'd 550bhp without a remap on the same dyno the RUF dyno'd 550 as well then I'm sure the X50's had a remap done even if the present owner is not aware. There's an easy solution for this though. What kind of boosting was the car doing? If its doing 0.8/0.9Bar as stock than its not doing 550bhp (not even close) and to prove it its a matter of math, I could dig out the flow numbers of K24's and 996 Turbo's engine (which is 12lbs per minute if I'm not mistaken) but Jean knows this even better than me so if he can step he's save me the work. On the other hand if you see 1.0-1.2bar on the gauge then its remapped and its probably doing 550bhp as the Ruf but with a higher boost threshold and lag.

I don't really care, the car is plenty fast for me and it has given me absolutely no problems.
Bruce,
What is your car boosting at? I have never seen higher than .9, just curious what you see.

John D's are low clearance, not Zero clearance...the same as mine. Don't think they were built by Kevin.

Besides techart cosmetics, I do run a techart suspension. Nice street suspension but the very same thing that makes it a great street setup doesn't make it the best track suspension. It uses a progressive rate spring so I'm not liking the dynamic/changing spring rates when driven hard.

John D, the wastegate kit that is on your car is mine BTW.. Along with your turbo design..
Kevin - Just curious, are you working directly with Ruf Germany, Ruf USA or some other people that work on Ruf cars? Also which series of cars (964, 993 or 996) are the Ruf turbos you've seen designed for?

Is there something about Ruf turbos that you're having to see so much of them? I haven't heard much about actual turbo failures on this forum so it's peaking my interest on how to keep mine happy (besides the warm up and cool down procedure I follow, along with the frequent oil changes).

Kevin, yes, I knew about the wastegates. They told me that they were your wastegates when I purchased the package and that they had their turbos made by you and one other supplier that did the same thing for them. They went on to explain that the K16/24 hybrid I was getting was an exact copy of the Ruf turbo with a better quality wastegate. In fact, I thought they said you were the one to take the Ruf turbo apart, analyze it and copy it.
