There is alot of mystery between the results in his videos, but i believe it! Stock to stock M6 would probably eat a tiptronic 996TT at highway speeds, stg 2 i HIGHLY doubt it, i pulled one a ridiculous amount, same with a buddies M5 before going RWD too!

M6 is definitly faster than a stock turbo in a straight line. Throw some turns and the 996 turbo might have a chance as the M6 is pretty heavy and the brakes are not as good as the 996 turbo.

you also have to keep in mind the 8500RPM redline of the M6. that is a huge asset of M cars is their ability to hold gears longer

Correct, so you might be able to get the jump on him but not for long.

I can tell you they (M6) won't out run a 03 Cobra on a roll from 60 -150 or so....hehehe. I have been looking for him in my 02 TT P with the tip. but have not seen him since the Cobra slaughter. Hey mabye he traded in for a Ford.

I've had 3 996tt's and 3 996tt cabs. My dd is now an M6.

The M6 tranny in its fastest setting (the only one I ever use) puts it head and shoulders above the 996tt. I really don't care for the assisted clutch feel of the 996tt and never felt I was shifting well. I would say a 996tt stage II is about equal to the M6 in terms of rolling start runs.

A full leather M6 is far more luxurious than the 996tt. There's really no comparison even if you have lots of eye candy in the 996tt. The stereo and nav in the M6 is far superior. I find the seats nicer, but that is prolly bum and back specific.

The M6 is quieter and has a much nicer ride than the 996tt. It's exhaust note is nicer (stock v. stock). I prefer its handling to the heavy feel and understeer of the 996.

I've never owned a 997 and prolly won't until they get the pdk or whatever it will be called. However, I think the 997tt with pdk will be a nicer car than the M6.

Edit: these are my impressions of the cars as daily drivers, not weekend fun cars.

The M6 is hideous IMHO. That did it for me. On top of that, its nearly 12 seconds slower at the 'Ring. Interior..... yes hands down goes to the M6. Performance, braking, styling, fun factor.....all Pcar.

I've got to agree with amerlemans, I considered the M6 before buying my TT. I had a hard time getting past the exterior styling, then once I saw the center console and ugly woodgrain it was no contest. I couldn't drive it. I love my BMW but the Bangle designs leave me cold, no matter what the performance.

...and I love BMW's (well, I did before Bangle got his hands on them). I owned an '01 M3 and thought it was a wonderful car. The current pics of the new V8 M3 do NOTHING for me. I do love my wife's X5 though.

BMW M Cars are faster than the sum of their parts due to the high revving engines. Much like a GT3. I wish TTs had 8,000 RPM redlines.
