Upsolute 996 Turbo vs. Stock X50?

Which is faster a regular 996 Turbo with Upsolute upgrade or stock X50?

Upsolute 0-60 on the back of a tow truck and Stock X50 0-60 the same as a stock TT around 3.9-4.1

Upsolute would roast an X50. I have the Evo stage 2 and Stephen's upsolute and I were pretty equal. I drove my friends X50 back to back with my car and it felt significantly slower. We launched a couple times and I pulled on him hard. The x50 has ridiculous lag in my opinion. Mash the throttle and wait and wait and wait. No offense, but I would much rather have a standard K16 equipped turbo than an X50 and its lag and hp geared toward the top end. Just my .02

I know that an Upsolute would toast a stock X50 but if you were getting into the higher HP the K16's would not fare agaist the K24's. The tow truck comment was because of the earlier post about the Upsolute problem with the car shutting down.

No sweat buddy, I wasn't at all referring to your upsolute comment. I knew exactly what you were referring to K16's as you said cannot handle the higher HP, however, for 505hp vs the x50, I would much much rather have a stage 2 than an X50. All the extra power is made way up in the rev range and the lag is terrrible imo. Like I said, under 505 hp, even if I was given the choice of stock vs stock, I would rather have the non-x50. Even stock, our cars were pretty even until we surpassed 120mph. For $18k, the stock X50 should pull far ahead of a stock turbo and it doesn't. As a matter of fact, I much preferred the more instant power of the non-x50.

How much does a modest upgrade cost? Say taking a stock TT to 480 to 500hp?? Will having a tip affect an upgrade? I ordered a TTcab, but decided not to get the X50..Thanks...

The Upsolute as mentioned is only $500(485-490hp)the Evo/Imagine Auto stage 1 programming is $3200.(485-490hp) Get an exhaust, diverter valves, airfilter, and the chip, it will run you $6900(505-510hp) with Evo/Imagine Auto, and about $4200.00(505-510hp)

Thanks for the info. Are there any warranty issues with going with an ecu upgrade, etc?? Does this void your Porsche warranty?

Thanks

I cannot speak to how the Upsolute's programming is written, however, I do know that my car had diagnostics done and the dealer did not know I had an aftermarket chip. The computer read it like a factory chip. Even so, it does not void warranty unless the chip was found to cause the problem area in which case, the tuner would cover that anyway.

Lou,

You are obviously very knowledgable in this area. What would you advise for someone like myself, who is looking for a way to most easily boost the horsepower to the upper 400s or low 500s? My cab will have a tiptronic transmission. Im not sure I would feel comfortable removing the ecu myself. Would a Porsche dealer do this? Thanks for your help.....

I had no problems with my upsolute when I went to the dealer.

Not that knowledgable, but, thank you for the kind words. My best advise, is whatever you do, do not let the Porsche dealer install any non-porsche aftermarket parts. In general they are clueless, not to mention you do not want to give them reason to void your warranty. The dealership would love an easy way out of paying for a high cost warranty claim. The less they know the better. Yes, they cannot simply void warranty, yes they have to prove it was the aftermarket part that caused the failure, and yes, it will be a big pita if it has to come to that. Again, the less they know the better for you. As far as removal of ecu, it is simple, took me 15 minutes and I can barely screw in a screw. As far as what to do, it is a tough call, I only have experience with the Evo stage 2. The upsolute and my car were pretty even though when I ran against stephentiPM StephenTI, his car runs great on the upsolute, he will tell you first hand how he likes it.
