help me decide??

Guys - What do you think I should do? I am going to buy a new car in the next 2-3 days and cant decide between the two?

I know this is a Porsche forum, but try to be open and give me your honest opinion!

2001/2003 996TT (Modded) OR 2005 SL65 (which will be Rennteched As soon as I pick it up)

* The 996TT will either have a Stage 4 or 5 Package, Full Techart body kit, suspension and other extras 2001 or 2003 - Both are modded pretty extensivley. These turbos have 35-45k miles on them. I have owned a 2003 Stage 4 in the past btw...

* The Sl65 is stock but will be completly Rennteched as soon as I get it. the Sl65 still has full warranty and has very, very low mileage (2k), its basicaly brand new.... I have never owned a Sl65, only an Sl55.... My wife likes this option much more! I may fly to LA today to take a quick look a it in person and fly back within a few hours...

And yes, I understand that there is a pretty big price differece between the two!

I love the SL65....What are you going to do with them? Ride difference is huge, as is handling...as far as top down cruising with MASSIVE torque (not even counting what nastiness Renntech will do!), nothing touches the '65...for hard core performance all the way around it's hard to beat a stage 5 TT.

You have one cruising car (the Bentley, which by the way if you chip is waaay faster) and one performance car (the 997). If it was me with your cars and price was no object: SL65.

Oh, and remember: Happy wife, happy life!

I hear you, makes sense.... The only thing is, I am getting rid o fthe 997 Supercharged, so there will be no true sports car. Can the Sl65 take the place as a Sports Car, thats the delima???

Also, the SL65 is way faster than the Bentley, even a GIAC flashed Bentley. I saw a GIAC flashed Bentley at the Strip run a Best run of 12.9 @ like 112. A stock SL65 will run mid to high 11's. A rennteched SL65 will run low 11's maybe even high, high 10's with the right driver & drag radials. The cost to Flash a Sl65 and a Bentley are the same price - $6000.00 and a Rennteched Sl65 will blow the doors off a GIAC Bentley. The Bentley just weighs to much and is all wheel drive, but for what it is - Luxury, Comfort, ect.... It's by far superior to the SL65!

I agree - A Happy Wife makes life a whole lot easier!

It's great every time a decision like this comes up for me, I think how truly fortunate I am to be in this dilema (Porsche or Ferrari). BTW sounds like you want to try the SL65. If you don't like it sell it and buy a 996TT. Prices seem to just keep falling, so what ever you lose on the SL65 u can make up for waiting on the TT Good luck though!

I've driven the S65 and the CL65 a bunch, but not the SL...I'm assuming the handling on it is much better then those two (god help you if you sneeze driving the CL hard into a corner!). The torque on them made me laugh like a little school girl. Personally I'm not a track guy, and rarely really push my TT to it's limits. I just like knowing it's there when I need/want it. The SL will be more comfortable for sure....you have a lot of cars so this isn't a DD (mine is). Just out of curiosity I'd try the Renn 65 (gotta love north of 700hp). As far as the Bentley I meant it will make IT faster, no way that thing will touch the SL.

Hey Dave... I'd say a fully modded Porsche 996TT.

Since you've had a 996tt stage 4 previously, and your wife favors the SL65, I think it's a no brainer. Get the SL65, make the wife happy, and enjoy the Renntech upgrade!

The SL65 can not replace your SC 997. I've drove a renntech SL65, not many car can touch it at highway. But after 30min in it, it was too comfortable to drive fast and I go back to SL500 mode. It was nice daily drive car to replace your Bentley. But you will miss the true sport car if it replace your Porsche.

Agree, I don't think stage 4 or 5 will do. You should compare between renntech SL65 and GT700 996TT

I would vote for the SL65.

It can't replace the 997S as a true sports car, but you probably wont own it for more than a few years. Having already owned a 996TT, you can go back to even a 997TT down the road if the SL65 doesn't cure your itch.
Might as well try something different. Something different that is also very very very fast. And hey, your wife will be happy.
But as you know, it's more of a cruiser than a sports car. So it depends if you enjoy "ripping up" your local backroads.

Hmm interesting choice, i even thought to myself after being in a friends Renntech'd SL65, maybe i should give it a try? Fact of the matter is, the prices are still dropping and eventually i will get one. The acceleration is MIND BLOWING with just a renntech ecu flash done, its insane literally.

What i gather from most people who give their opinions though is that they had no seat time in an SL65, i have. With stock suspension but set to full SPORT, the car was rock solid, stiff and FLAT AS A BOARD, the car hid its weight, through itself into hairy corners at highs peeds, had grip and exit corner speed was very fast too, i was extremely impressed to say the least.

It will not and never feel like a sportcar, merley do to its weight and luxorious interior, but its such a sick car in general and otherwise, it might be a nice change to tell you the truth, drive one and then someones turbo back to back is my only advice.
