Anyone else in the same boat w/ a Turbo?

hey guys, not trying to advertise a WTT thread, but after posting it, I got curious whether or not I'm the only one feeling the same way or if this is a common thing amongst other members on the board.

basically, my thread is about considering trading an immaculate low mile Turbo for a GT3 after owning it for only 2 months. Has anyone feel that after initial ownership of the Turbo that it's not quite what you were looking for? Or that the Turbo is not enough of a handful?

Don't get me wrong, the Turbo is the fastest car I've ever owned or driven, but for some reason it just doesn't seem edgy enough. Maybe it's all that holiday drinking getting to my head but I'm looking to see if I'm the only one.

Your right-- it is so good it's sterile- unless used in anger- where it is really fast. GT 2 is raw and"edge'y" by way of comparison. As is the GT 3.My personal preference is for the'raw' feeling in a car with so much performance.

I think the 996TT is a nice blend, and you can always mod it to make it more edgy. Add some PSS9s and send the ECU to Protomotive for a 100+ HP treatment, and I bet the 996TT will be edgy enough to keep you interested.

it wavers day to day, but I love my TT nonetheless. However, I can't say that I don't sometimes feel that same when I'm in the presence of a GT3. In fact, if I had a GT3, I bet I'd sometimes feel like I'd like the even keeled TT instead....

I'd love to own a GT3. But I also know I'd get tired of it's lack of acceleration ability (compared to my TT) rather quickly.

The answer to your dilemma is totally dependant on what you want from your car.

I personally wish I could afford both...but since I can't, I'm happy with my RWD TT.

I love the boost of the turbo. It never gets old for me.

First of all good luck in your decision!

My only questions are, is yours or have you driven a 996TT with the following:
1) new coilovers set in lower than stock position with proper alignment ?
(mine really came alive after this AND a Sharkey H&R rear sway bar)
2) SSK ?
3) must have ECU upgrade and exhuast to bring out more of its potential
to put it in the 480-500 range compared to the rather tame 415 stock ??
4) GT3 seats and harnesses

If you have driven a 996TT with above mods and still are not satisfied, then
you are not a "turbo powered junky" and just may need a GT3.

A GT3 is a fantastic, balanced and edgy machine with a high revving motor!

Great to hear from all the old timers about this. Having seen Scott's previous cars, it'd be only logical that a stupid-fast turbo-ed beast is to follow.

Eitherway, I don't think anyone is going to bite. I can't imagine someone with a GT3 and would want to ditch it for a Turbo anyways. I was originally intending on purchasing a GT3, but at the time, could not find one that would fit my criterias both the car and the cost. I think the raw power of the Turbo is addicting, but flying into a turn revving 5500 and have the motor sing all the way to 8000 on the way out is something that I miss from the old n/a tuned M3.

Woodster:

Currently I pulled the driveshaft to see how the car feels and it's definitely lightened up quite a bit in terms of handling feel and quicker response. I'm hoping that after some K24+ECU and suspension fitting the RWD setup gets in there, it'll be a completely different story.

now I'm just curious if there are anyone that bought a gt3 who'd actually consider getting a turbo instead?

Only two months? It only took me two weeks before I realized that I needed to mod my TT since it comes pretty tamed from the factory. Since I don't track my car, the TT provides more than enough torque for those occassional red light encounters.

You need:

Exhuast - adds the narly sound that is so missing from the factory, which is eerily quiet.

Suspension - including lowering the thing so it doesn't look like a 4 x 4, a nice coil over with some sways will make a world of difference.

Engine Mods - to add anywhere from 50 to 500 hp that will unleash the beast!

GT3 who?

I went through the same thing when i first got it, day in and day out. Then i started to look at how amazing the car was, how well it did everything and APPRECIATED it much more than ever, for what it does and for what it is.

I realized what i really need s that GT car, no matter how much i tried to make my car a GT2, it just was not a GT2, but truely an amazing sports car without a doubt.

Goodluck

Three years ago I traded my first 993tt for a 996tt. Like you I felt the car wasn't at all what I had expected. So I traded back for another 993tt. A year later a friend convinced me to try his GT3 at the track. Although the car was impressive I felt that it lacked that certain something. And that certain something is the "intense torque" I have been addicted to and can not live without. Thereafter I went on quest researching for everything available that would make the GT3 more powerful. The more I digged the more I came to realized that the only way to have the raw power and streetability of a modded 993TT and the edgy razor sharp handlings of the GT3 is to try the "Widow Maker", the 996GT2. After owning this car for sometime now, I can honestly say that I am still amazed, exited yet scared everytime I drive it. I strongly disagreed when people say the GT2 is a combination of a 996TT and a GT3. To me it's more accurately to describe it as a combination of a modded 993TT and GT3. There is no other car on the market right now that will give you the intensity and reliability of a GT2 out of the box. Let's not even talk about a modded GT2. My 2cents.

so i guess my solution is either a gt2, or... a gt2 = )

btw, strange thing today. I was pushing it on the freeway on-ramp(read: flooring it), and it never got passed 0.7 bar, then right when I shifted at redline, it hit 1.0 bar ?!?!

it's never happened before. the most I've seen was 0.8 bar. Even my mechanics who test drove the car with me only saw 0.8 when pushing it. my car is not chipped and has zero mods. Is the air pressure reader just having a fluke or is this something I should be more concerned with ?

I understand what you mean but a Gt3 is not the car for you, you need a Gt2
