Comparison: EVO Intercoolers vs Blownsix
Comparison: EVO Intercoolers vs Blownsix
I have been toying w/ the idea of upgrading my stock GT2 IC's. The initial logic proposed to me is that heat soak, especially in extended boost situations (IE when tracking) will create heat soak and compromise performance. However, I will rarely track my car. Nonetheless I am concerned about the effect of heat on my engine even as an every other DD over the long haul.
The EVO and Blown IC cores for the GT2 are identical. However, the difference is that the end units/attachments are different. The EVO's are designed for all new hoses while the B6's are designed to use the existing hoses. The EVO's are also more expensive. I have also heard (by searching Pelican forum) that there have been some shipping problems w/ the B6's. I believe the EVO argument that it is wise to replace the hoses, but disagree with the claim that their IC core/basic unit itself is better (which they use to justify their higher IC price). I have also heard that the EVO end tanks are better.
Any opinions would be highly appreciated.

I have the Evo hoses on the stock intercoolers. I don't remember doing anything special to make them fit. Isn't the EVO fitting dimensionally the same as the stock fitting, only better made (in which case it wouldn't matter which hoses you had with either intercooler)?
I made my own and saved an absolute fortune!

I am using new Samco Hoses with these, but not any connections. Plus I kept as much alloy Tubing on them as much as possible, they work a treat!
What I would say is if you have a some time on your hands then make your own custom ones! (I had a lot of info from Marky on this, guys a star!) If you can't be bothered then get either Evo or Blown.

dr juijitsu I'm going to say the same thing... You say they are "identical". Can I ask the question of how you know this to be a fact? I have seen both units and they were not the same.
I find this interesting but hard to believe. I've seen one of their 930 kits and even a set that was bought from Ebay but a 6speeder. The ones I saw did not look akin to the EVO ones. Not the cores, not the end tanks, nada... The end tanks whilst being less restrictive than stock were not as well designed as the EVO ones. Not knocking anything here but I see this stuff happen a lot, where people say "It's just like company X's product only much cheaper etc...". You could say that about Iforged as well vs HRE but in reality they're not the same. They might be an improvement over stock but to say they use the "stock" hoses seems like an unwise move. I try to upgrade the hoses on any 996TT with more than 550hp. The hoses WILL pop out especially if you're pushing 630rwhp and trying to improve flow whilst heavily under load like on a race car. Doesn't make any sense to me? The stock hoses and end clamps are not exactly designed to withstand more than 1.1bar for any sustained period. The expand even before coming out bleeding boost.
If you're going to the trouble of improving flow, adding power etc... and taking all that stuff out I'd certainly make an attempt at swapping out the weak link as well- the hoses.

A bar and plate core will be somewhat the same between manufacturers....... or at least do the same job... what really does make the difference is the end tanks... but that's for the engineers to argue about...... LOL

Yeps the end tanks are important and that's one obvious area you can even see from the pictures (even though I've seen the real thing) where they are very different. The angle is much more extreme on the blownsix.
The pics I have seen do seem to give a bit of an edge to the EVO end tanks's....I made a fairly low ball offer for the EVO IC's and hoses to a distributor who shall remain unamed ($2,700) but he rejected it. I am completely at an impass as what to do....hence I will probably just sit tight for a while with my stock IC's. Weather is cool and I won't be tracking.
