airbag failure light

So the warning light comes on, I take it to the dealer and he said the codes changed for after 2002 or something and fixed it, but mentioned if it comes back on I need new seatbelts or something for $700. Anybody know what is going on because my warning light came on again this morning?

Make sure you get the actual codes! Then...it is possible you need TSB 1/04 6924 Airbag Warning Light Comes On: Fault Codes 46 and 49 - dated 7-21-04 gives full instructions on how to replace the drivers side and/or passenger side seat buckles with new ones. About 2-3 hours to do both.
(Also common problem in pre MY04 Carrera, and Boxster as well as TT/GT2/GT3.)

Wross,

My understanding (I have had same stupid code cleared) is that the
replacement parts solve a problem that is code related only. The actual
function of the seat belts and airbags is not effected.

Here is a trick. Undo the plug under the seat and clean the connections. Clear the code and you should be good to go.

Thats a good trick. I don't know how to clear a code though. Should I take to dealer? He's trying to push $700 seat buckles.

mine just came on again. Sharkwerks switched it off for me once and said it was probably the seat buckles. It only came on because I moved both seats to their max forward position, I suspect it's the connector, like porschephd said. I guess I also need a way to switch it off without a dealer charging up the wazoo to switch it off.

:-)

You need to have the dealer do it or by the Durametric tool. You have to have acess to the SRS system. A standard OBD2 reader will not so it.

I have the same problem. Had the code cleared before and it came on again. I looked at where the wire goes from the seat belt and it just seems to disappear under the back of the seat bottom cushion. Do you mean to unplug the entire wiring harness under the seat, or do I need to remove the seats to get to where the seat belt wire goes under each of the seat bottoms? Thanks in advance for any help with this.

You can pull the plug out from under the seat and follow the single plug back up to the seatbelt. Without looking I recall it being the blue plug in the main plug. You can also jumper the line at the main plug and kill the seatbelt altogether like we do for the GT3 seats.

Hi,

I have this issue also. I will attempt to clean the contacts, I guess. Am I cleaning the connections at the main plug? Also, it'd be great if someone could expand on how to jumper the line.

Thanks in advance, RJ

What does code #21 mean? I have been getting a recurring airbag light with this code.
