RUF 550 hp vs RS-Tuning 542 hp
Niklas,
There are a lot of guys on 6speed with the Ruf 550 conversion.
You might want to PM one of these guys or maybe they'll chime in soon.
"illM3" has a 996 GT2 with the Ruf 550 conversion.
"RufMD" used to have a 996 Turbo with the Ruf 550 conversion.
"Guy" from the UK has a 996 GT2 with the Ruf 590 conversion.
There are some others as well.
The only member who I know who has a RS Tuning kit is "kiko". He has RS' 508 kit.

here's the 993tt shootout, the ruf has 558 and the rs 542 (owner said he had a problem so claimed 520)

I have a Ruf 550 conversion as well. It is an incredible car, fast, smooth etc. I have no experience with RS Tuning but have heard they are an excellent choice as well. What specifically would you like to know?

I am not going to give my 2cents though, this is my first experience with a RUF car and havent had great seat time in it yet, been busy and weather is LOUSY

So far so good, its an animal as most RUF tuned cars are..

There was a long debate here: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...d.php?t=303918
The day I see a datalogged 60-130 mph run from any R Turbo at 7 seconds (or 8 seconds for that matter) I will believe RUF's superiority over RS. Or what about a 7 second run from an RT12 or ANY 60-130mph run
which this 993TT RS Tuning ran and documented quite a few times..This has been debated often, RUF has customer service superiority, RS Tuning better engine development and technology, read performance.

I am looking to use my car on trackdays at Spa, Nürburgring, and Porsche Club events. Reliability of the engine is #1.
RS-tuning 542 kit is 10 K cheaper than RUF 550 here in Europe. But RUF will include new clutch, new turbos and some other things. For the price diff I can spend the money on KW new Clubsport suspension that is based on version 3 but is supplied with 4 top mounts and is reinforced for trackdays.

I'm upgrading my 508 to 542 but this project is being post poned for a year.
I've never driven a RUF so I can't comment but I had exactly the same dilemma as you're having. RUF customer service is stellar.
Jean,
I think Ruf and RS are both excellent with RS having the edge for race engines and Ruf certainly having the edge for customer service, but;
...that race on Google ie Toby vs Leon is hardly a benchmark in any way, since both cars actually trapped the same 198mph at the last VMax. In addition, neither car is a standard package from either RS or Ruf, especially Tobys (that you are quoting) that runs a MAP sensor rather than MAF and also custom RS cams and also a $10,000 intercooler. You are trying to infer comparisons with RTurbo's with standard conversions with other cars that are non-standard packages that have had a lot of extra expensive work done by RS. Until someone datalogs a customer RS 996 conversion with a standard package vs a Ruf standard RTurbo you are, respectfully, comparing Apples with Oranges.
Niklas,
If the RS package is that much cheaper for the same power level though, I'd say go for the RS.......

I just took my GT2 out, and the thing is flat out FAST, i loveeee the throttle response, hardly any lag, BELIEVE IT, much less lag then my fully maxed out K16 setup!
I was 42 mph faster on the same straight as i was with my 996TT (130 or so for my turbo 170-172 and in a BREEZE), and my turbo MOVED, im impressed hands down
