I has a spoiler malfunction light but totally different symptoms. The spoiler was going up and down at 70mph. Speed Gallery said that the spoiler was not going up far enough to activate the micro-switch. I think they topped up the system somehow. Has worked fine ever since.

This probably won't help you, but may help others.

Is it the case that you have to remove the wing in order to take apart the hydraulic system? If the wing is stuck down, is there a way to get it up so I can remove it?

Thanks.

I'm sorry but I didn't do it myself. If you read the posts, taking the system apart caused a spring to pop out and possibly injure you. Be careful doing it.

I do know that you can pull up the wing manually and it will spring back down..

Both my cylinders were leaking very slowly so I had the same issue when there simply wasn't enough fluid in the system to raise the spoiler to the fully extended position. I followed the DIY procedure found on the forum and topped the system off using Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak. It didn't take that much fluid to top it off. Stop Leak seems to have fixed the leaks, too!

To all, Check the pistons for fluid leaking, you can also look down at the frame in the engine bay to see any signs of fluid. 90% of all the spoiler drive failures I repair have been fluid leaking from the pistons. Most of the time you can replacethe faulty piston and bleed the system.
