Dealership Doesn't have a Clue!
Dealership Doesn't have a Clue!
Hello Fellow 6Speeders,
I have been to the Porsche dealership 3 times with this same problem and it remains unresolved. I'm turning to the vast body of knowledge and experience on this forum for some assistance since the dealership can't seem to figure this out.
THE PROBLEM:
For about a year now, the PSM system fails and the ABS system fails simulataneously. PSM and ABS warning lights go on and then the engine starts to idle irregularily and sometimes stalls. It doesn't matter whether the car is cold or has been driving for an hour, but the problem always occurs when it has been idling for a few minutes. I have a 2001 Turbo with EVO diverter valves and it has only 30K miles...it is never a check engine light, it is the PSM and ABS lights that go on simulaneously.
First Visit:
The dealership found a broken boost hose and replaced it. They also said the software needed to be upgraded so it was done. Passed diagnostic tests, but problem came back in a few months.
Second Visit:
MAF failed or was blown so they blamed the aftermarket air filter. They said the oil in the filter caused the MAF to fail so it the MAF was replaced. Passed diagnostic tests, but problem came back in about two months.
Third Visit just last week:
Found faulty O2 sensor and replaced it. Also said the MAF was faulty again and blamed the aftermarket air filter. So, we replaced both the MAF and the air filter with a stock one and everything seemed fine. Honestly, the car felt great, idle was consistent and smooth and it passed all diagnostic tests.
ONE WEEK LATER:
Same problem again and it has happened twice including engine stall. The only reason why I keep going back to the dealership is because most of the parts have been covered by my extended warranty.
If any of you have experienced something similar to this, let me know. If any of you have a solution, I would appreciate the input because the dealership doesn't have a solution.
Thanks!

The ABS/PSM warning lights are just that. There are a bunch of codes that will create that scenario. I would get the codes (get durametric or perhaps autozone). O2 sensors, MAFs, Plugs, steering sensor, hoses, vacuum leak, etc. It sounds like your dealer does not know how to interpret the codes and is just going through the list. Get the codes and we can give you better information. Plugs is just a guess since you have been through all of the others.
Well, just thought I would post the solution to this mystery problem for others who have similar problems.
I've got to hand it to these guys at Pacific Porsche in Torrance. Yes, that is the dealership I've been bringing my TT to and they finally got it right. Some problems are not easy to find, but once they did, it was resolved right away. They did a smoke test and found out that not one, but two hoses were leaking. Both were in really deep remote areas of the engine and were difficult to replace. These caused a loss in pressure and so the fault codes triggered as PSM and ABS failures. So, after the hoses were replaced, smoke test passed, idle is steady, and everything is great!
See you on the road...
