You're absolutely correct, Adam.
I kept piling up the shopping list but never moved on it and in retrospect glad I didn't. Europipes + GIAC + PSS9s + seats would undoubtedly improve the car in many ways, but that would still leave me with a car that is 450 pounds heavier than it should be. Concluded it would be smarter to blow that money on a 997 GT3 (if I end up finding one).

A friend has a '00 TT (186'00 miles !) with Sportec stage III, coilovers, full roll cage, GT3 seats and came to the same conclusion: simply too heavy.

The thing is, as a daily driver, it does not really float by boat. Interior finish drives me nuts, and the ride is too trashy. Perhaps the roads are just too bad around here. Unless you're at full boost, which is never the case in commuting, this thing never really feels - or sounds - special enough. Does not have the sense of occasion of my 550 putzing around at 50 mph.

Well, if you want to make an offer via pm ... It's an 04, has 21500 miles, 2nd owner, still under Porsche warranty, clean service history.

IMHO, if you want to really track a 996tt and get the most from it requires much suspension and break tweaking. I agree stock sucks ***. but once you get it dialed in it would be hard for any new 997tt or GT3 run away. if anything they would be hard pressed to keep up. but as we all know, it depends on the driver.

I think the 996tt will still run circles around your f cars on the track.

In Europe ? Sure there is. First customer deliveries took place in the fall 2000, that's also when I test drove my first TT. You may argue that these are to be considered as MY01 per US conventions, but his car was delivered in 2000.

No doubt it will.
The comment was about the sense of occasion as a daily driver, the enjoyment you get when cruising. From that standpoint, my former Carrera had more character, and every drive of my F-cars does feel special, a bit like vintage cars (which you may argue they now are ).
