If you just wanna save weight, rwd convertion is the way to go. If you want to save weight to be able to get better lap times around a track, it depends on the track. If the track characteristics suit a awd better than a rwd, then a conversion wouldn't be so smart.

Turbo vs GT3 weight loss, now who's a pig?
Ok, between the GT3 guys and the Corvette guys at the track I was tired of my cars weight being refered to as "the pig"!! All in fun of course.
So hoping someone out there likes math problems cause here is one for our beloved TT. I am going to compare my friend in his GT3 with a full tank of gas, no PCCB's, and oh yes! He weighs 220 pounds.
Now my and then some.......

'02 X-50

muffler....delete
LWFW
11 pound battery
spare and tools out
BBS light weight wheels
PCCB's
rear seats out
rear wiper off
factory seats replaced with GT3 seats
100 cell cats
for fun or math problem only delete the front wheel drive

my car with above and only a quarter tank of gas and oh yeah me at only 150 pounds.

All above vs my GT3 220pound buddy with a full tank of gas, I dont really think we are that much of a pig..........IMHO, just for fun!!!

Then you can go with 2 piece rotors and even ceramic brakes, replace body panels etc. You can get this car to 3000 pounds, several posts on it if you are interested!!

I'm gonna start a table based on what I think and what I've seen posted, if I'm wrong correct me. Just trying to get an estimate of exatcly how much weight can be lost without gouging the wallet or car.

Battery 37lbs
Spare and Tools 60lbs????
Seats 65lbs
Rear Seat Delete 15lbs
Wiper delete 3lbs
Wheels and tires 28lbs max
RWD 115lbs
exhaust/muffler delete 20lbs????
LWFW 10lbs????

363 lbs ????

The reason I dont think wheel and tires are a big hit on the bank is because you can buy used, especially for the track and most times if you sell the full power seats you can sell them for as much as lighter weight seats or more meaning you make money. RWD is cheap LWFW may cost a bit. and a new exhaust will cost a little.

Hi D,

Saw a post recently about driveshaft, front diff and axles weighing in somewhere under 80 lbs; don't remember exactly. Neil says he is getting corner weight scales soon, so when mine comes out, I'll weigh it.

Hope you enjoyed your mountain run. I need to meet Paul; I think that was his name. I need someone to help me learn to control the torque.

I'll invite you to my first auto-x and you can bring your binoculars (to stay far away) and get a big hoot.

Oh, I thought I had seen where it weighed a little over 100 lbs. Either way, it's a sizeable weight difference.

When is your car coming out of the shop?

The mountain run was a blast, very bad for a paint job, but fun nonetheless.

Yes, I would love to see that Autocross, let me know when it happens.

if you go straight pipes/racing cats you save 55lbs haha tahts why its so tempting to go that route for me !

Hmm seems like we can make this car a Sub 3,000 lb car without affecting it at all...geez

I know but I just closed my eyes and reopened them when it was done, oh, and had to go to work while my eyes were closed to pay for it.
