looked at my PSS9 kit closer and its happening in the front struts on the top where the springs meet the cups.... is there supposed to be a bushing there? i bought the car 2nd hand and its just spring then cup...
Do these cracking/creaking noises eminate from the interior or exterior? From all the discussion it sounds like the exterior. I've had these types of noises from 2 Boxsters and now my Turbo when doing almost to full lock turns at slow speeds. I've just gotten used to it over the years.
Kind of like the coke bottle whistle noise that plagues so many Boxsters. That one is from air flowing through the gas vapor collection system neat the gas filler cap. That one will drive you bonkers as I had on both 986s.

Mines stock and does the same, had it serviced lastweek and they diagnosed it as lower track control arms. Will be replacing soon, sounds like a clacking sound when going over uneven surfaces on mine, worse when turning.. Is that the same thing as drop links?!

Does it make noise when turn and standing still? If it make noise only when moving and turn, check front drive axle also. (I guess your car is not gt2.)
I dont think its the drop links. I've had the noise before (stock) and I have it now albeit with a slightly different noiseprint since I fitted PSS10's - which came with the bilstein's drop links. Also, sometimes springs which are part of coilovers twang when on full lock. Eh I just live with it. These cars moan and groan, noises come and go, so I think some noises on our cars just are this way, so I live them be.
If you change to adjustable drop links with monoball ends, you wont get any popping noises but you will get a bit of metallic rattle as the links move around on the monoball ends even when you are driving straight. You can use rubber or neoprene bushing between the ends of the monoballs to stop the noise.
Did you get Bilstein ones with your PSS9's? Were they no good?
