Value of Billet Pedals?

As the winter cold and ice set in here in Connecticut I find myself spendig more time on this site, scanning ebay listings, and other places considering the mods for my 996TT. I guess this is my version of cabin fever.

What do 6speeders think of billet foot pedals (including dead one) other than some look pretty good and others look like cheap crap?

What functional benefit do they give?

What makes one set better than another?

Thanks.

They lower the center of gravity of the car and shift it forwards so
they contribute to better handling. Also they have a lower coefficient
of friction with your racing shoes so you can switch from pedal to
pedal quicker for a finer driving experience. I use armor-all on mine
for the shine and to keep the motion quicker.

Oh, and because they are stiffer, they won't flex when
you really put your foot in it like the stock ones might.

OK, now I am confused. How would changing the throttle, clutch and brake pedals "lower the center of gravity of the car and shift it forwards.."?

Am I missing something here?

Thanks.

Sorry, I'm pulling your leg. If you spend a lot of time looking at your
pedals, and it just has to look different, go for it, but pedals mean
nothing. They are car jewelry like a rhinestone dog collar.
I understand the cabin fever though. Just wax it again.

Good one! While I have owned 911s for years and roadraced motorcycles starting in the late 1970s I find there is a lot more information in this group than I would ever find elsewhere. So when someone comes up with specific info as you did I try to make sense of it.

Then again we used to send the racer wannabes around the pits looking for adjustable metric wrenches and left handed screwdrivers.

Just waxed it a couple of days ago.

They look cool and feel good to the bottom of a good driving shoe.

Most people go to the racing pedal set up just for an interior looks upgrade which I agree with as well.
As for reasons there are several and I think they are important and help me alot. First is the pedal feel and grip especially at the track with good driving shoes on makes a difference. Secondly, some pedals are set up to give you a better chance at easier and smoother heel toe shifting. This was my main reason and why I choose the ones I did.....

Just my 2 cents. tom

oh and Buzz since you fell for Joe's joke, he also was kidding about the armour all thing also. The pedals are made to give added grip and so you certainly dont want to put something like armour all or anything else slippery or greasy near the pedals!!!!

Beautiful car! I never fell for his joke as it made no sense to me, but being a newby I didn't want to call him out in public on it. So, for a change, I tried to be diplomatic - something new for me. And I have never been a fan of ArmorAll.

If I want something clean, I clean it. If it needs to be lubricated, I lube it, never understood what ArmorAll does other than dry out the items it is applied to. As a matter of fact many tire companies recommend NEVER using ArmorAll as it speeds up the aging process and could cause cracking (and less grip).

Thanks, as always, for your sensible and real world advice. If I can I'm going to give you another rep.

Best - Buzz

I bought a used set of RUF pedals about 4 years ago. I had planned on installing them but am afraid they will screw up my heel-toe "skills". Any merrit to this?
