Lowering the 996T motor

Hey guys, I am lowering my motor to allow more clearance for coolant bottle and plenum removal. After the rear engine mount bolts are removed how low can I go without causing binding problems? I`m guessing 2-3 inches. Sharkey are you out there??

You can actually go down as far as the lower sub mount. Watch the coolant lines.

Ok mike one thing you do _not_ do is go as low until you hear noises of metal on metal or crushing For the first time, have someone lower it _very_ slowly and watch the lines as you're going down as low as phd said... I haven't measured how many inches exactly but enough to make doing the DV's a doddle for someone with big hands. I'd say around 4-5inches.

You can lower it with a jack to just about the sub frame. I have done it a million times, again just watch the coolant line.

Why in the hell are you lowering the motor to do DVs....suck it up!

offtopic... I hear the stock motor (996 carrera c4) mounts are soft and can be upgraded to a cup car mount that are a bit stiffer and the engine sways less if any at all. Has anyone heard of this practice before? Sounds like a good upgrade if you track... thanks for any comment on this.

Sure, we do it all the time. Keep in mind that the road vibration and noise is more transmitted to the driver. So you will have more noise, more vibration and a stiffer ride.

If you really know your car, yes. Otherwise probably not.

I go on this road that corners and I can duplicate a sway almost all the time, im looking to get rid of it. I have PSS9 w/H&R sways and trg drop links I tried alot of diff combos including tire press. I cant seem to get rid of the sway (its a very agressive turn). If the new mounts work then I can sleep. Thsnks for your help!
