Newbie Needs Advice

A friend of a friend is selling an 02 996TT with 22k miles. Stage 4 work was done about 5k miles ago -- upgraded turbos, wastegates, headers, cats, exhaust, chip, clutch, short shifter, PSS9s, Techart front bumper and splitter, Techart rear spoiler, and Techart wheels. Never been tracked. Owner wants about $80k.

My questions:

The car has no warranty. Obviously. Is it a big risk to buy a stage 4?

If I buy the car and drive it for a few years (no track) and bring the mileage up to 60k or so, how hard will it be to sell? What would I be able to expect to get for it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You never make money on mods. they do add risk.

These motors are mostly bullit proof though, I would not
hesitate if it has been well maintained.

I don't mind not making money on the mods. Basically, the current owner is losing his money, and I'd be getting them for free. But I'm wondering how hard it will be to sell a stage 4 car, especially one with lots of miles. I know guys on this board have experience with this, so I'm coming to the experts.

Thanks.

They all sell OK "at the right price". There is no way your getting the mods for free though, I think your paying at least $10K probably $15K for them.

I would offer less money. Modded cars are hard to sell.

If your really worried about money don't buy a very fast Porsche, which is what you are getting.

A stage 4 TT w/22K will give you many thrills for years. Offer the guy 72-75K and you will be getting a good deal.

I would have to agree with everyone else. You are getting a great price for the mods that are done. But, if he traded the car in they would give him nothing for them. A bone stock car, in the same shape with the same miles would go for mid 60's right now. So, for you to offer very low 70's would mean he is gettting a better deal than trading in and you would be getting a good deal if you would do those mods to a stock car one day anyway.

Yes but he can always take off the parts and sell them for at least .50 on the dollar...
the techart body with wheels is about $15K painted and installed alone... another 20K for the rest of the stuff... so instead of lowballing the guy give him 75K and u will still come 15K ahead. Imagine if u Buy a stock car... rims and tires alone will cost u $7K. decent tuning another $15K. bodywork another 10K. and thats not everything he has.
SO instead of being an *** .... give him a decent offer and take it.

u see the buyer is always saying " but the dealer will not give u anything for the mods" meanwhile the seller is saying " but I spent $45K on the upgrades"... LETS BE FAIR ALL AROUND..
just my opinion.

I knew this would be the right place to ask. You guys are very helpful. Thanks!

I'm ok offering $75k, but the owner says he has an offer for $80k. I'm just not sure I want to go there, and I certainly don't want to be in a bidding war (and certainly not a fake one).

What I haven't mentioned is that the car has a Gemballa interior that is not to my own personal tastes. It's a little loud, and I'd rather it be more subtle. I believe it would be a lot of money to get it back where I want it. But if you guys have suggestions about how to do that for a reasonable price, I'd love to know about it. Reasonable to me would be $7500.

Also, I just learned that a friend is selling his similarly equipped 01. No TechArt bits, but a killer $10k sound system. I'd probably want to add TechArt stuff, but I wouldn't have to spend money reversing the interior, so it's sort of a wash I guess. Should I care that it's an 01 not an 02? Everything else being equal, I think the 01 is worth about $8k less, according to KBB.

Gemballa interior is super expensive... whats wrong with the interior? color?

hold off and see if he sells it... there are plenty of TTs out there... just look in the fore sale section here on 6speed.

Althought Arena Red (Burgundy) and Graphite Grey go quite well together, if I do say so myself...
