Tools, what do you prefer?
Saw a post on manicures (?) then another questioning the manliness of the forum...thought I would start a thread to push this back in the right direction of a Porsche forum...
What are peoples preference on tools, like craftsman etc... (not the butthole pleasures kind of tools for those trying to "soften" the forum up..LOL)
I have been using Craftsman pretty much my whole life, Sears has a great warranty (life) and will easily upgrade if replacement isnt in stock. And what town doesnt have a Sears???
I tried another brand from Lowes once, but was dissapointed in the selection, uess what, Sears took it as a direct trade in, welcome back to the family..wow!
A friend of mine (ok it was me) found a crusty broken craftsman socket, I too it in and voila! A new socket.
Anyway, what are others using?
(Hows this Todd, Step in the right direction?)

Personally, I use Craftsman also because of their cost and lifetime warranty. Perfectly useful for the average tinkerer. Heavy-duty tasks (like freeing frozen exhaust bolts, etc), they don't stand up so well, but then again air-tools are the best for things like that.
I have however been lucky enough in the past to have access to friends garages stocked with Snap-On. You'd think, hey they're just tools right? How much better can they be? Well, if you have the spare change, there's nothing like a set of Snap-On. Ergonomically, mechanically, fit, finish - everything is absolutely perfect flawless about their operation. They are worth every penny if you can afford it. And, I don't know if they're warranteed or not (I assume they are), but they are practically indestructable. You'll never spin one of those sockets.

if you live in a decent metropolitan area, you can find Snap-On tools all day long on craigslist. i just waited and pouned on good deals as they came up. saved me thousands of dollars.

Same here lots of used snap-on stuff in my box, also craftsma, occational harbor freight because every once and a while they make some good stuff.
Though I must admit I use a craftsman box's because of the cost.

Snap-On is the best, but for one thing. Their replacement policy sounds great on paper, but we had all kinds of problems with it at my work. Craftsman lets you go to any Sears and swap out a tool, no questions asked.

Mostly Craftsman some Mac. But to be honest I picked up a set from Metwrinch late one night on TV and I almost always grab the kit when I am doing somesthing. Each socket fits a standard and a metric. It keeps me from guessing on sizes metric/standard. I have had the set for over 10 years I know and have yet to break even one socket. Best $149.95 I ever spent on tools. Now no laughing for the infomercial purchase!!!
Snap-on. Always used them in the shop and always will, some Matco, Hazett but 90% Snap on.
Gramici is correct sometimes they will try to walk away from some warranty stuff but usually we always come to a "agreement" with our sales guy.

I wish I could get more involved with the mechanical aspects of new cars. Its just so damned hard if EVERY friggin thing is connected to some sort of electronic failsafe...I mean...its good in that problems can be diagosed quicker...but It makes the "What does that do Earl"..."Uhh..I dunno, lets take it apart" aspect of the auto world pretty extinct...
Humph....
from the guys who work on my car at a Race Prep Place, snap-on seems to be the choice...
