I think it's a 98, I'll get the specifics when I see him. I disagree that it is comparing apples to oranges, the way I see it, a Porsche with a very easy mod, can be made to beat such an expensive high performance car, don't get me wrong, I think Lambos are very nice cars, just way too expensive and flashy for my taste, maybe my tone would change, if I could afford one.

Also, when it comes to a cars expense, you have to factor in exclusivity.
I have the new Fuji Fast video from Best Motoring, and the GT3 goes up (and destroys) the 360, 355F1, NSX Type R, EVO, Skyline & STI. For 4 laps (aboput 8 min. total) the GT3 was almost a full 8 sec. ahead of the 360 & NSX Type R. I also have the video where the pre-04 GT2 came in a close 2nd to the F50, and soundly beat the Murcielago, NSX, and another modded Gemballa 911.

While you were watching the video with the Gt2, Murci and Nsx, did you notice that the F40, F50 and Gt2 were not stock? also, if you have the video, get someone to translate for you. The Murci driver had never even sat behind the wheel of one before, and the owner told him to take it easy. The Nsx-R driver, has 1000's of miles of experience behind the wheel of an Nsx and if you watch him drive you seem him hit every berm head on, while the Murci goes all the way around.

The GT2 looked stock to me. It had the stock wheels, and the standard GT3 race seats (outside of USA). The F50 looked pretty stock as well. The only modified car was the Gemballa GT500 I believe. You might be looking at a different race as there was no F40. It had a GT2, a C4s, a Gemballa GT500, NSX Type R, and Lambo Murcielago. The driver of the NSX Type R is Gan San. He probably has 1000's of miles of experience in all those cars. That guy is just nuts period ! Every race I have seen him in he is crazy. The Murcielago guy seemed pretty tentative, and almost lost it on one of the corners, but he seemed to have a lot of problem with the weight of the car. It seems the japanese always have problems with extremely heavy vehicles (M5 was another example), as most of their cars weigh far less.

The Gallardo and Murci are great sports cars and I thought about buying the Gallardo but I just couldn't stomach the depreciation from a $170000 price point. The two year warranty is scary in terms of resale. I think that it will depreciate like a stone even though it is an incredible performance machine. The leases from 2nd party sources are setting the residual at 50% for a two year lease. Ouch. I looked at one that was going to be $4000 a month for two years. Now 360 Modenas, on the other hand, do much better both with leasing and actual resale. My '01 996TT has devalued badly as but I have 28000 miles on it and a 4 year warranty with a dealer close by.

Allan,
You definately must be watching another video. I have watched that video over and over and there are no such mods on the GT2. No mods at all. The hood was definately not held on by race pins, and not modded (You can see it in the beginning of the video). That interior is stock (remember in the non-USA GT2's the standard seats are the GT3 racing seats on the GT2 & GT3). Are you sure the boost controller wasn't in the Gemballa GT500, as the GT2 looked stock even in the interior shot during the driving.
I can see how the Murcilago was not driven very hard, or the driver was not very familiar with the car. Quite simply they have always had an issue with the heavier cars in these tests. When they drove the M5 they were having bad problems with it because the guy could not control the weight going into Tskuba's corners. As for the NSX Type R, that was driven by Gan San, that guy would run over his own mother to win a race. If you have ever seen any of the other races he is ruthless. Also the Type R is a stripped down 2700 lb. version of the NSX. It's brakes and weight give it far superior handling & braking for the corners.
TurboMarco, The video is 36 MB long. I can try & put it into a zip file. I have no way to host a video that large. Anybody interested in hosting ?
Ari,
Yes it does.
