Approx what is the weight difference of a GT2 vs. turbo off the showroom floor?

Out of the 2002 Porsche "News Media Information"
2002 911 Turbo = 3,395lb
2002 911 GT2 = 3,175lb
Only 220lb difference.

Regards,
Luis, Sr.

Unfortunately most turbos right off the showroom floor weight in at around 3,500 lbs.

I have learned through modding that there are alot of differences between the 2 cars. Correct me if I'm wrong , but, I believe the GT2 has a dry sump oil system. There are a lot of different part numbers that are non-interchangeable on the 2 cars also like fuel pump, etc.

The 996TT, GT3, GT2, 997TT and GT3 all use the same dry sump engine.

I'm not sure what the factory quoted as curb weight for a 993TT, but mine was 3693 with me in it at 160lbs. I think the factory weight rating is a little "optomistic".

I came into the corkscrew at Laguna Seca to hot in my TT and started to spin entering the second apex. Before I could even react, PSM corrected the car and kept me from going off the track. I've done my share of racing and like being on the edge. But after that experience, I will never speak lightly of what PSM can do. If I were driving a GT2, I would have been an addition to the 1/3 that have been in an accident.

actually this brings me to another good point..I like to track cars....a lot. I've got people telling me that for tracking/DE-ing i might as well get a GT3. I dont think I want another N/A porsche because I can go pickup another cheap car (read: import) and make it a track only car for the amount of money it would cost to put a cage into a gt3/turbo or rebuild a cup motor.

having said that it would still be nice to be able to just show up at a track event sans planning and push the car hard...are turbos fun/fast at a track? I'd consider myself a pretty good driver as far as tracking goes (no expert mind you..but fast enough to matter) and i'm wondering if the turbo will be a good "fun car" to toy with. Not something to go out and win time attacks with (although that would be nice too lol)...but still drive hard and pass people.

Depends what you consider "fun" and how setup the turbo is. A turbo with coilovers/sways, a few mods like short shifter maybe lwfw and clutch would be very nice, my stock TT on the track i hated, the suspension was so wallowy coming up the big hill at Limerock it was very scary, i felt uneasy compared to my friends Stock E46 M3 i drove..

Setup they can be alot of fun though, BUT again the turbo lacks alot of feel and just does what its suppose to, amazingly well. Its a plus and a minus, its fast as HELL with little error and does everything so well, leaving out some of the fun factor for the driver, but that's just me!

thanks iLLM3.

now the sad process of returning my current car to stock begins.....then the even more agravating selling process....then happy turbo shopping for the win

i'm thinking white, yellow, black as potential candidates.

How's the feel of the TT compare to M cars? Is steering numb due to a AWD or just as communicative? Also, I keep reading the articles about the GT3 and TT comparisons and one of the main advantage GT3 has over TT is that the car talks to you with razor sharp responses. I wonder it really is true or not. Is there anyone on this board that has both GT3/2s and TT and been driven on a roadcourse?
