Do I think it's the safest thing one can do on the road? No. But I'd say it's safer than about 5 or 6 other things that people commonly do on the roads.
i don't "street race" per se but i use this same argument to defend my speeding. when i'm speeding, passengers are amazed at the concentration i have at the road - (mainly, i'm looking for cops ) but i'm far more focused than the proverbial soccer mom in their minivan yacking on the phone.

phones are a far more dangerous thread to your average driver than street racers.

So something like this

Never been raced, although that's about to change. It's quite funny though the few people this weekend who approached me about purchasing the car, wanted an 8 second time slip before they made an offer.

I can see why the engine bay won. Exterior is not really the color I want, but how much are you selling her for, and what are her stats?

I would exceed the post text limit if I posted all her mods lol. Before we left with a quick tune she made 1,090 @ 37psi, when we got there I had an intercooler pipe blow off and she made 1,001HP on boost. Still havent' sprayed with the new setup but I'm thinking 1,200-1,250 won't be a problem once it's dialed in.

With the 3.4L it spools quite nice and makes good power down low as well. It's a little tricky out of the hole with teh 1600cc injectors but if you drive it like you stole it, it's a blast.

Wow, I bet if she hooked up she would have broken 5 seconds in the 60-130 with no problem. Why didn't you run her?

Didn't have enough time once the rig pulled int, She would have hooked on the tires I was running. A similar setup car was the one that ran 4.8 on drag radials, his car makes a few less HP than mine and doesn't have the nitrous either. With the combination of those 2 things I think I can get her in the mid-high 3s no problem on the right tire. We'll see in the coming months. I might be able to find out sooner than that as I believe I can logo speed/time in my Motec.

Wes, Bob was running around 850 rwhp that day through an automatic transmission with no NOS. He was mad that he brought the DR's and not the slicks as we're sure his car would have done low 4's and maybe high 3's on high boost and NOS. Oh well, it was a learning experience and LOTS of fun!

bobs car didnt hook too well.. a lot of cars would have done lower numbers if they had room to heat up their tires

I actually did 5.0 sec with 2 shifts. yes power has alot to do with it but hooking up is more important... not to mention gearing... The trick is to transfer all that power to the ground otherwise its useless... thats why alot of HIGH HP supras/vipers dont liek 60 mph roll ons.. they prefer 100 or 120 mph + rolls ons...
Also, I think its important to compare apples to apples... so some cars can do a 60 to 130 with no shifts.. some with one and others with 2 shifts... and thats very important when it comes to 60 to 130s...
I can easily regear my car to do it with no shifts and be at 4.4... bingo. and I dont need 300 more RWHP.
just my opinion,
markski

Peter -

I saw that with Bobs car, I think a 6spd might be able to go quicker in this setup because of the brake boost/ gearing difference. With the right tire getting 1,100-1,250 to the ground shuold take off quite a few tenth if not more. IF not it'll be a fun ride finding out

I agree shifts are an important part. With a big turbo car you can likely brake boost in a higher gear and transfer the power all at one time at a different RPM than a fly-by.Same thing with nitrous, bringing the nitrous in at 55 will help get things spooled and down to the ground. All speculation, but that's the fun of running against the clock, you're always looking to get the most out of the time no matter what it takes. I don't see anyone re-gearing thier car for 60-130, but it's fun to find the ideal setup for your specific car at any given time.

Yes NOS will help.... we don't have that luxury in P cars...
