I just bought this '01 996TT.
The person who sold it to me, pointed out the license plate holder, which states" MEMBER 11-99 Foundation" and said that that was an expensive, but useful accessory. He said the previous owner paid a lot of money for it.

At least two people have now told me that these things are found on the cars of high-end drivers, because it allows them to speed on the California freeways with fewer or no consequences.

Can anyone corroborate this (or dismiss it as an urban myth)?

The theory of that plate frame getting you out of jail and letting you speed as much as you'd like aws debunked a long time ago. They won't give you a break because of it. The purpose of the foundation is to support officers and families if I remember correctly, as much as they appreciate a person donating money that doesn't mean you can break every traffic law known to human existance and get a slap on the wrists.

 

Do a 150-175mph run by a cop and let us know if you go to jail

 

it works but you can usually only get away with misdemeanors, just kidding.
this thing has been around for a while now and has increased in price recently. some chp officers might ask you for your badge which is sent to members with the plates.
does it work? sometimes for small/minor offenses (nothing is really too minor on the highways though)
is it better than nothing? definitely, and it is a good donation

I think I'll trust a good laser diffuser / radar detector instead...

 

My buddy's a CHP officer and loves giving tickets to speeders. The license plate just says you have alot of money to throw away in his eyes. The best protection was actually having the same officer drive my TT @120mph in broad daylight.

 

That last sentence was pretty incoherent, what'd you mean by that.

 

This is a classic thread. I cannot believe a license plate frame is any protection from speeding. LMAO I challenge guys with this frame to speed and let me know the results.

I think he meant the only way to not get a ticket for going 120mph is if you are a chp officer.

I was at trafic court a few weeks ago. The person next to me got a speeding ticket for 100+ on the 5 next to Disney. I got a ticket for 75 at the same location (speed limit is 65). When he approached the judge, his ticket was dismissed because he is a marine and was late for his cutoff time at Camp Pendleton. I got stuck with a $150 fine.

 

What kind of crap is that, just because he's a marine doesn't mean he wont kill anyone on the way doing 100mph, My 2cent
