Speeding ticket in SF

my friend called me in the morning, he got caught by helicopter and police in SF, he went 120mph, he was with his friends, total of 3 cars.

his car was towed, how much do you think he has to pay for the ticket and tow?

Just quessing since these big speed bust fines can be totally arbitrary and not knowing the limit where he was caught.... I would say $500-1000.

In California, going 25MPH or less above the posted limit is considered an infraction and you can just pay the fine and go to traffic school ( online in many counties) to get the DMV points removed providing it has been at least 18 months and 1 day since your last traffic infraction.
Speeding greater than 25 MPH above the posted limit (? misdemeanor), you MUST appear in court and do not have an option to go to traffic school. I think this is state wide but not 100% sure if differs by county.

My recent fine was $156.00 for going 50 MPH in 40MPH zone plus the cost of traffic school but I would guess it goes up exponentially with increasing speed.

over 100mph can be a misdemeanor, as well as reckless driving , exhibition of speed, and new one: disobeying a posted sign which in this case would be speeding but it gives a little more latitude on enforcement.
You will have to appear and it may be worth getting your attorney involved because I almost lost my license over that nonsense.

after all that wait until you get your new insurance premiums....

as you can tell I'm still a little miffed I got caught

Do you know where (which hwy) in the SF Bay Area your friend got this ticket? I've heard alot about helicopter patrols on Hwy 280 but have not yet seen one.

Also, do you guys think our V1 will be able to pick up a helicopter?

I would fight it, the reason you should is because the pilot has to come in to prove this. Most of the time the pilot will not come in for this since there are so few of them and they are needed in the sky and not in the courtroom. I recently moved from that area to Boston so I know about this area, 280-101 etc. Good luck.

FYI I got a 85 in a 30 on central expressway in Palo Alto and I luckily didn't get arrested because I pulled over immediately and waited for the cop since I knew I was bagged . Anyway's my fine was 300++ $$ I can't remember. I went to traffic school and it was never put on my license

My dad was pulled over going 127mph on 5. It was a mandatory court appearance and the fine was $1,200. Plus his license was suspended for a month.

You guys need a good attorney. Infinitely better than fighting it on your own.

I have an excellent traffic attorney who specializes in 100mph+ tickets. It will cost you about $4-5,000, but it's worth every penny, as his results are quite good. Some get dismissed, most get reduced to traffic school. He has only lost one case, and that's when he first started the practice!!!

PM me, he will fly to N. California also.

I got pulled over on 210 W in La Canada doing 102MPH on radar, and the CHP officer let me go with a 10 min. lecture. Little did he know that I was just slowing from 130(because of traffic) before he got me.

I am not sure which highway he got caught.

Here is the full story, my friend with his friends, 3 cars, went 120mph and a helicopter pointed the light to the first car. Probably the heli called the police and the police caught them. They went 60mph when they got caught and 120mph when the heli saw them.

The other two friends used their international license and they were asked alot of questions while my friend was using temporary license (he hasn't even done the road test and he got the temporary license). Guess what? the temporary license already expired. But the police didn't ask him many questions. His car was towed while the other 2 were not.

He went 60mph because he changed highways. I will double check where he got caught. It was 2 / 3am in the morning SF time, and I got a phone call at 6am eastern time from my friend.

He will pick up his car on monday and he'll go to the court in May.

My question is: I thought the police is supposed to write how much the fine is, on the ticket? I never get caught before thats why I don't really know this. My bro and friends got caught several times and I was in the car too and every single time they got caught, the police always write down the fine.

I got instant on while going 92 in a 55. Mandatory court appearance. Paid my lawyer $500. No points, no insurance surcharge .. nothing. Didn't even have to go in the court room.
