Very cruious too...

I'm currently shopping and want nav- would MUCH rather concentrate on all the other factors and be able to add the nav to the car if necessary.

I will suggest go with aftermarket unit. Compare with factory NAV, you got lots more fuctions with even less money on aftermarket unit. But I know some people want to keep it all factory look. So it all depends on you.

Any new info on this?? I am hearing it is a simple plug and play- nav unit and display, with the harness already in place.

Is it possible and what does it cost?

Is there any online (or other) source for parts data on these cars? Similar to:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...92&hg=11&fg=20

for example

Aftermarket is the way to go for functionality. I have an 01 TT NAV unit I pulled out to go aftermarket if you really want one I'll sell it to you.

I did the Pioneer nav unit also, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nav unit. Ipod, Bluetooth, XM, Sirius, with touchscreen.

While my car was at the Dealership last week I had them quote me on installing the factory Nav system. Parts and labor $5985. Yikes.

I have Porsche NAV and I can't wait to get the Pioneer AVIC-Z2. I think that's one nice thing about the 996 dash, you can install a 7" open face LCD and i'll look just fine.

That's what I read. I just cannot stomach having a dealer plug and play parts... so trying to determine what nav parts are required.

I'd do aftermarket if it could look 'factory' and not loose any functionality.

Thx

A

PS That quote by the dealer is outrageous. My guess is 2500-3k for the display, bezel and nav cpu...

It's almost 6k in OEM parts

Unit/wire harnesses/fiber optics and labour to retrofit it.

Just get a Garmin Nuvi 660!

So the dealer who quoted Freier was LOOSING money?!?

The 2003 has the newer bus configuration (correct?) so you just hang the display and nav computer on the existing harness... AFAIK, it has the NAV - MOST bus.

This thread is particularly about 2003. (2004 has it stock)

Thx

A
