I own a x50. I would pass buy a non x50 and buy hybrid k16/k24 turbos. I have UMW ZC hybrids which totally rock! THe x50's lag bad! People who don't think they do must also own single turbo 1000RWHP power cars. If I would not have upgraded my turbos I would have sold the car!

I don't know. I drove a k16/24 car back to back with mine. The small amount my car gave up in low rpm power it made up for at higher RPM. My impression was that the full boost of the Hybrid at 3000 RPM wasn't much faster than almost full boost with the K24s.

I think the owner (who drove my car as well) agrees. Adam? What was your opinion?

With an X50 you get the turbos and bigger ICs included and possibly a stonger tranny (nobody knows if this is actually true). My intention was to keep the car as stock as possible and get the most power. An X50 fit those criteria.

Thanks for the plot Ari. Any chance you've got one with RPMs plotted against power instead of speed?

For the modded K24 crowd - when do you start to feel a strong surge from the turbos? 2,500, 3,500, 4,500?

TIA

Like you, I purchased an X50 because I was convinced that the K24s would produce more power than I would ever need and, after an ECU upgrade and exhaust, I would be satisfied for all eternity. Unfortunately, the reality was VERY different. As others have observed earlier in this thread, and you will likely experience first hand, once you begin modding your turbo, your initial contentment with the K24s will quickly diminish, and your desire for additional power will surge. Suddenly, you will be looking at a variety of after-market turbo options (e.g., Proto 18Gs or EVOMS GT28s or UMW ZCs) and you will be pondering why it was that you paid additional money for an X50, but subsequently removed each and every component that distinguishes the X50 from the standard 996TT. How do I know this? I lived it. The X50 provides upgraded turbos, exhaust and programming (and a couple of additional items of less significance). You have already determined to change the exhaust and programming. Therefore, the K24 turbos are the only component that you will initially retain from the X50 package. IMHO, that is not worth the incremental cost of the X50. If I had it to do over, I would not purchase an X50.

Thats my 2 cents.

Craig

When I had my K24's that came with my X50... if memory serves...full boost comes @ 4500 rpm...give or take...

Unlike my UMW Stage 2 ZC that gave me full boost almost 2000 rpm earlier...I suppose that makes Kevin's ZC and programming special...

BTW UMW Stage 2 ZC are larger than stock k24's. They are ported some I believe.

There is no doubt that the K16/24's spool very quickly and provide exceptional power. It is a great platform and very enjoyable. However, as a guideline - the 16/24's are limited to mid to high 11's @ low to high 120's trap speed in the 1/4 mile. If you are looking for more aggressive acceleration like low 11's or 10's @ 130+ trap speeds (as a reference point), the 16/24 will not get you there...it really depends on how much power you want and what your goals are -

Depends what gear. I can get full boost by 3,000 RPM in the higher gears.

BTW the dyno plot above never saw the full 1.2 BAR I see on the street. It maxed at 1.1 BAR on the dyno.

I missed this thread... but I think I can shed some light.
You can't go wrong with with ZC stage 2. Comparable would be evoms gt640 or the Protomotive k24/18gs. If u have K24s on an X50 it will cost you only $1200 to "HYbrid" them compared to buying straight up k16 hybrids... UMW, evoms, etc...
I have seen the so called LAGGY K24/18gs run a hybrid K16/24 and guess who
ran faster... and took off faster.... I was surprised myself.
In any event, not to deny any tuning kit... I would drive a few kits before I would get into them.

Where these a bolt on k16/24 or a custom stage 2 ZC kit? I could see it being comparable to a bolt on hybrid. The UMW's spool pretty fast and the k24 is really a custom ported larger. I would love to get a ride in a k24/18g car! They seem to have the extra kick up top. I just would not give up even 100rpms of lag down low.

Kevin,
that is what I was told. Not sure. The whole point is that K 24s were not as bad as some people think( I know what u think LOL)... BTW,I didnt mention whos turbos they were(no harm intended)...
The race could have been better( one guy had a girl in there as passenger).
After all, GT2s come with K24s and no one ever complains that they are laggy.

No harm!
To be fair my experience is limited to a x50 car and a car with UMW stage 2 ZC. I have had other cars though with more and much less turbo lag. If other k24's perform how mine did and people don't find them laggy... The last turbo car they must have driven was in the 80's Cause a 2300rpm power band is pathetic especially given the turbo size and engine displacement. It could all be tuning as well.
