Is this just way tooooo complicated on a 996 TT? its such a nice feature on Ferrari's and Aston Martins

I'm sure it's a pretty cool feature, but honestly, is it that difficult to turn the key? Everytime I see the Lexus or Infinity (I forget which it is) commercial with the Push Button Start, it makes me laugh because you still have to put the key into the ignition, so doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having a pushbutton? Just seems like an extra step that would take (briefly) longer. Maybe I'm missing something as to why people want this feature. In a race car it makes sense but then again, you don't need a key when you have them in a race car.

Most of those keys are blue tooth and you dont have to put them in the ignition. The car recognizes the owner and unlocks the car when they lift the handle and car starts at the touch of a button. For you to put it in your car, you would have to have a blue tooth entry. If not you would have to put the key in the ignition then push the button.......defeats the purpose.

I think it you can retrofit the push button start without having to insert the key it would be pretty cool. Like the BMW comfort access where you just have the key on you and you can open the door and pust the start button to start the ignition.

I was stuck on mcheng's avatar as well...

I have the "start" button on 2 cars (A8L and E55) and it's not worth it...

It's convenient but it's just not that difficult to press a button on the keyfob and then insert and turn the key. It's like a $2,000 option on some cars and it's just not worth it IMHO.

The thought of trying to retrofit it would scare the hell out of me - the factory systems don't even work that well. I've had a few instances where the f'in car would SHUT OFF while driving due to a failure of the keyless system. Scared the crap out of my wife.

Just my $.02
