Going To Make The Jump - '01 996TT

I found a nice low mileage '01 996TT. I'm coming from owning a NSX (very reliable) and a E46 M3 (in the shop 2 times a month. What a POS). Are '01's reliable? What do I need to look out for when shopping for a 996TT? One thing I was told was that I need to change out the spark plugs. Anything else I need to look out for? What are maintenance costs like? I was in the market for a 355 but was turned off by the $5995 major service bill. I've tried searching the forums but have not come up with enough info to make the decision.

I bought an 01 with 50k miles on it. Check the clutch (needed changing), sparks (also needed changing) and my slave is leaking too, the dealer said at around 50-60k its fairly common (I pass by and they top it off for free until i can leave it there to get fixed). But with those miles it was half expected. I got a deal on the clutch which was $1000 cad installed (not the dealer), but the slave is $507 cad without installation. But never an issue with reliability. Good luck!

I have a 01 with 21,000 miles. Car is chipped and exhaust. Never changed the plugs or DV's. Car runs great. Be sure to check transmission for 2nd gear popping out, and get a PPI.

I would try the new updated plugs in your car. After I changed mine out I noticed a HUGE difference! This was @ 27K

bought 01 Tiptronic with 16K and now trouble free 41k one year later.
Servicing costs are reasonable too.

Look out for the 2nd gear pop-out issue that has already been widely discussed on this forum. It can cost you $12K+

01 with 9900 miles, PPI recommended plugs, brake flush & coolant flush, which was done. Replaced the DV's with Forge and the boost hoses with aftermarket, but the stock stuff came out looking fine. Did it b/o aftermarket chip & exhaust.

Get a PPI and make sure the car has a good alignment.

I bought an 01 2 months ago and it's making 510WHP... I've had no issues, but was under no illusion... Get an extended warranty... I did, and it's the best $$$$ spent! 4years/48K miles... It costs a few pennies, but hey, it's worth it to have such a wonderfully powerful, eye catching, unique ride!

Option, take it to Sharkwerks for a PPI. Alex will be able to give you a thumbs up or down on the car. They're a site sponsor on the right side of the screen.
