Protomotive upgrade nearing completion
I I helped one friend in Toronto get into a k24/18g this week. he finally installed it and went out tonight. Prior to this set up he had k24s with Upsolute. He called me 5 times to tell me how much the new set up changed his car. He still has yet to discover 1.3 bars on 100 octane

[quote=John D II]Raudel,
This started out as a simple Protomotive ECU, K24/18G turbo, Greddy BC and throttle body set-up with "V-flow and ported headers (of which I already had)". It was going to be similar to Gunthers set-up and I was going to use the same program that was developed for Gunther. Then I threw in a set of intercoolers for good measure. We were set to go when my tech mentioned if I was thinking of a fuel system upgrade - now would be the time...with the engine out. I called Todd and he agreed, so I added the fuel system, too. Originally, I was going to send the car to Todd to do the fuel system with air intake and intercoolers next winter, but the project took on a life of it's own ending with the package described here-in...
I'll let you guys know when the car is there...would love to see some other Proto cars, as well.
Good luck! I'm sure it will be a beast....Hopefull I'll catch a glimpse of it at Protosport.

For those of you that were interested in hearing about the final outcome - I picked the car up this afternoon. In short, I would describe it as my former K16/24 car...on a massive dose of steroids. There is little to no lag. When I drove a base Protomotive package last year, the car had noticable lag compared to my hybrid K16/24, but a very strong midrange and top end. With the fuel system and other additional components we added, the car jumps at the slightest throttle input and the power just multiplies from there. The non power assited clutch set-up is very positive feeling. You can feel the engagement, feather it as you like and when you dump it - it has a feeling of really "locking up" and with any throttle at all - the car is gone! I know a full weight 996tt is far from a race car, but it feels like what I would imagine a cup car to feel like. Everything is so positive and responsive to the driver input - it's a precision machine...on a completely different level than before. I expected a certain amount of lag, but it just doesn't seem to be there - it feels like there is less lag than I had with the k16/24's. The throttle response is phenomenal. This following synonym is very over-used and never before have I considered applying these words to my car, but I must say - the car now feels like a beast, although a lowly beast compared to Markski, Scott and a few others
...
Also, as a side note - so far I have not had the time to fine tune the Greddy boost controller settings or run over 1.05 bar and the ECU has yet to be fine tuned by Protomotive, but man does it go good! I love it.
Looking forward to logging some more miles again tomorrow.

TKD,
The additional modifications are pictured on page 1 of this thread...intercoolers, 75mm throttle body, RSS Y-diverter plenum, modified V-flow and Evo hard intake piping. I'll look closer today to see when the boost comes on, but in general, there is such quick throttle response and corresponding power down low that it gives the impression of no lag.
Mark, Thanks - I'll call you later if I need assistance...

Thanks for all the positive comments. I drove the car home today - approximately 200 miles, so I had a chance to experience it a bit more. It was a great drive and I really enjoyed the car! It seems to be a great blend of the comfort of a 996 with some of the edginess of previous generation 911's.
I did a couple of tests for TKD regarding the onset of boost and this is what I found. It is a little difficult to explain, but here goes...The point where it really kicks in is 4,000 RPM's. However, the throttle response and power down low is very strong, so even though there must be lag, it is not powerless lag, but instead very sharp throttle response combined with a lot of power (I think it is a result of the increased fuel and air flow), so the car feels very strong - even when it's not in the sweet spot. If I red line 1st gear (and we all know how quick 1st goes by) and shift to 2nd, I'm right at 4,000 RPM's and the car just goes. That's why I am not feeling any lag. So to test for lag, I dropped down to 2,500 RPM's in 2nd and floored it - 4,000 RPM's is where the power really hit hard.
Craig, sorry - no dyno numbers. The car is going to be road tested/datalogged and tuned via email files between Protosport in NJ and Todd K at Protomotive, so the only dyno it is likely to see is the big black one, Scott has mentioned

Congrats John.. and you clearly have a 10 second capable car. I have no doubt of that

Sharkster,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. Weren't you the first one to run a 10? Great to hear it from someone with your experience...the key word is "capable". Doing it is another story, but that's the goal.

John,
Very nice to hear!!!
I have more than a slight interest in your impressions and I am very
glad that you are pleased at 1.0 bar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really look forward to further impressions and as you all know my
car is going under similar "transformation" as we speak in the
Mad Scientist's hands...
I believe I will be quite pleased and will use it this summer.

Marty,
Have you driven a Protomotive 700 car with the fuel etc.? If not, you will be surprised when you first drive away - it's very engaging and sort of shocking.
Good luck with yours, I'm sure you'll love it!
