Would you agree to these terms of sale?!
Would you agree to these terms of sale?!
I am trying to sell my 2003 Turbo (I don't have the minimum 100-posts neeeded on 6Speed to list it here). Check out this e-mail I received from a person I've talked with several times who wants to buy the car. He lives in Oregon, I live in Seattle. Can you imagine anyone willing to agree to these terms? You can also check out the response I sent back to him. (The names heve been deleted to protect the foolish!)

Here is the deal. I have been doing some thinking and justifying to my
wife. I am sure you know what I am talking about. I would like to pick up
the car on Sunday. I will let you see two accounts of mine with photo ID.
If I like the car I would like to write you a check and take the car the
same day. I will let you match account numbers, Id, write any sort of
contract you want. My thing is that one of the points of me buying a car in
Seattle is that I do not want to have to rent a car for 4 days. I am going
to be attending a Mario Sperry Jiu-Jitsu Seminar with My sensei Marcelo
Alonso who has two academy's up there. You can check it out, I can give you
the hotel I am staying. I do already have insurance set up through
progressive for Sunday. If you are not comfortable doing this, I do
understand, but it is the only way I can buy the car. My wife, nor do I
feel comfortable paying for something before hand, contract or not. She
said, and it is a good point, that I do not know you and that you could just
take off out of the country. Although I do not think this of you, She is
right. Thanks for your time. And I hope we can work something out.

Bobby -
Thanks for the note. There's just no way I will release my car to someone who plans to secure it with a personal check written on a Sunday when banks are closed and funds can not be verified. That would be insane and I can't imagine you'll find any Porsche owner willing to arrange such a sale.
If you are that hesitant about getting ripped off, and it is a very valid concern, my suggestion would be to use an escrow company to handle any transaction you may be planning. I can underrstand the concerns of your wife though and it's probably better to keep her happy in the long run. Good luck with your search.
All the best - Brad

Brad,
You def. did the right the right thing. His story sounds 100% BS. I would have asked him to let me keep his wife until the check clears. But she is prolly fugly so dont do it. If he wants the car that bad, wait until monday and he could have had his bank do a wire transfer and then drive the car home, simple.
He is a poser and a playa wanna be.

Tell him to get a cashiers check. Then over the phone get the info of the cashiers check and call the bank and verify it. If he does not like the car when he sees it he can take his cashiers check back home with him. Thats it....i have done it a few times.
Personal check....now that is funny. He is obviously just trying to pull a fast one....he may be the one trying to leave the country!!

Brad,
You handled it with intelligence and class,
you obviously know what you are doing.
If something seems fishy it often is. Cashiers check only on days
when banks are open to verify validity, period.

Good decision on his part..
You guys need to know about Cashiers Checks: Some banks pull funds from the check writer immediately and others do not. I bank with Chase and this is how it works- a cashiers check from them can have a stop payment put on it..... So, I could hand it to the seller and get in my (your) car and call my bank and stop payment.
So you need to find this out before handing me your car..... wire tranactions are the only way to be sure, but they take a few hours to land in your account-
Be warned!!!!!!!

Have him do a wire transfer directly to your account; or what you can do.. find out where he banks, and open an account there so he can do a direct transfer into your account... But Sunday is a big issue...
He never gave a reason for wanting to pick the car up on sunday. I call b.s. , seems like he wants to have 0% risk while you have 100% risk. You did good, tell him to put up or shutup.
BTW P.M. me the info on your car and asking price, I know someone who may be interested.
