Deep scratch in My Carbon Steering Wheel :(
Wacked my watch into the steering last night and made a really nasty scratch in the carbon - tried a little p21s cleaner ( all I had on me ) and it did nothing for it - any advice or ideas ?
I'll bet if you look close, the carbon fiber is untouched and it is the resin coating that is scratched. That can be filled and sand then buffed. Do you have any race fabricators where you are that do CF body work. They all use a resin with the CF that could fill the scratch. Good luck

Darren,
I would like to see a picture to render a complete opinion. In the meantime, assuming I will not see pics, I recommend the following:
Go to a Porsche or BMW Dealer and buy an exterior body paint touch up kit consisting of black paint (in your case) and a complimentary clear coat. Might as well have the touch up if you are buying the kit anyway. I have the BMW kit. It contains two small cylinders with screw off caps with integral touch up brushes. Use the clear coat touch up on the scratch. You will likely require several coats. This procedure takes the place of the resin. It will dry to a super high gloss and is viscous enough to fill the scratch. If you are very patient and careful, you can probably get away without any sanding at all. If you are sloppy, then you will need to sand. and recoat.
I have done this extensively with the radio surrounds in my car when i needed to refabricate the pieces to fit in the relocated positions.
Call me if you need guidance.

Darren, I'll give you the same advice you gave me a few month ago. Go see if George can wet sand the clearcoat on the wheel and buff it out.
Also, to prevent this from happening again, I have $6,000 here waiting for your Daytona!

Congrats on the TT Darren! Sorry to hear about the steering wheel.
It's good to know that these steering wheels nick fairly easily....I had an alu wheel put on my P-Car and have been extra careful as I already dinged my alu door trim. I'll make sure not to bash it with my R-watch.
I hope you can repair it to your satisfaction. Good luck.
