996 Turbo / GT2 Turbo discussion on previous model 2000-2005 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo and 911 GT2.

How much does it cost to maintain a 996TT out of warranty?

I get it changed every 7,500 miles, half of the 15,000 recommended. I am also of the opinion it should be changed every 8 months, to minimize any condensation buildup, especially in a humid environment like Houston.

What's a cup holder? Sorry, but Porsche is not in the same league as Lexus for reliability...not just luck FYI.

Look like it all depends on luck of the draw. Interestingly, those cars that have problems will continue to have problems. Those who's reliability is good the first few years seem to hold out and being "good" cars.

Amazing! 3 pages of repsonses without an answer to the question.

When I checked this out, it was about 5k for an additional 5 yrs, 100K miles if the car was still under warranty. Out of warranty was almost twice that. It was a quote from the dealer. It has been almost a year since I enquired.
I think that the price is negotiable, so check around at multiple places. However I would buy the warranty at the dealer that I plan to use, so that they would be less likely to decline coverage.

since everyone is listing the problems they had:

purchased with 10k miles 17 months ago and now have 27k miles.

i dont consider tires, pads, oil changes, spark plugs, filters to be warranty items. those are wear and tear items and maintanance items. expect to change these based on driving habbits.

I had a warranty from porsche for the last year of ownership, and then for the last few months im in my CPO warranty from porsche.

prior to ownership (and i only found out now) the tranny was replaced - my guess is that it had to be the 2nd gear problem. That to me is the only "pattern" i see if anything. As spoken many times on this board, there is a good chance of this happening. Figure 10k if your out of warranty (i believe). Just the fact that this might happen justifies the CPO IMHO.

Aside from that, and that happened to the first owner.. nothing major, just basic things you would expect from these cars.

-When i bought the car the passenger power seat motor wasnt working. Fixed under warranty.

-car started acting weird at 20k miles because of bad spark plugs (which i should have changed already, especially since the car was chipped for 10k miles at that point) those were changed out by myself to the better ones. i believe dealer charges around $500+

-Radio headunit cdr23 was replaced under warranty for bad pixels on headunit. (again nice to have but nothing crazy)
-recently i had to get porsche to tow my car since my alternator gave out while i was driving. car didnt start. New alternator in porsche with labor is around 900. That was convered under CPO. both towing to and from my house were covered under porsche roadside assitance which i believe goes hand in hand with the warranty. So thats another $300 of savings.

If it wasnt for the tranny problem which usually happens on low milage cars and thus tells us that its a manufacture defect, the car is pretty reliable for a luxury sports car. Dont forget that most of us on the board have modified cars, opening doors to just abit more problems, if anything.
