I have the stock radio in my 01 TT. I could just be the worst car stereo ever in the history of car stereos. Lucky I have a Fabspeed exhaust to listen to.

I replaced my Headunit with an Alpine I had in my truck and it made it sound a lot better.

the stock systems are complete garbage. your much better off just listening to the sweet noise from the exhaust!!

replacing the headunit will make a considerable difference in sound quality...but it still leaves a lot to be desired.

I was wondering whether it would be better to replace the head unit or the speakers. (Obviously, replacing both is ideal) I replaced just the speakers in my truck and it made a world of difference.

Head unit for sure before speakers as they are decent. Do you have a BOSE car? Head unit replacement is tricky.

I just replaced my NAV unit with a Kenwood DDX7019 dual DIN touch screen with Sirius, IPOD and bluetooth phone...figure on $2K or so.

How do you like it?. Did you need to add any amps/speakers?, Did you install yourself?.

Thanks

Great so far (4 days in). Only thing I need to add is a 4channel amp because I get a bit of echo listening to talk radio - caused by my car having the Digital Sound Processing option. If you like a TON of base, maybe a sub. Sound quality is better than with the stock head unit, stereo shop did the install and recommended that I leave the stock speakers in (and that's a first in my experience). Sirius and IPOD interface work perfectly, phone calls go through the unit as well.
