996 not for tall ppl .......
996 not for tall ppl .......
The otherday i was at my local Porsche dealer checking out a 996 turbo really nice but why in gods name does Porsche have these silly backseats(theya rent useable anyway) ? Iam 1,93 m or around 6,4 and iam not sitting good in the 996 the steering wheel is to big and the i cant get the seats as far back as i want due to this silly backseat..... A Supra or Skyline or Vette has much more room in the cockpit . So is the Porsche only for dwarfs same as the Viper also made for dwarfs ;-) . Is there any simple solution to this cause it truly sux that in 2000, carmakers cant make cars that ppl over or around 6,4 cant fit in how f****** hard can it be ? Flying to the moon is possible...... making a car where ppl being over 1,90 can sit in impossible.
I also think there are brackets that can be ordered for tall people that lower the seat more and allow a bit more leg room. THis may only be for the gt3 seats I don't know. I does take getting used to the steering wheel position thought but once used to it is in a good place for accurate steering with correct input.
Belive me i was as far back i could go and as low as it allows you to go still sucked ...... mr Einstein ;-).

I'm 6'4" and fit in the car a little tight using the sport seat. But we are all not built the same way. A one inch shift either way (legs or torso) and I would not fit. One of the things I did that made the fit MUCH better was to install the center console removal kit-it opened things up a a lot, particularly around the steering wheel.
Also, the type of seat makes a big difference. Note that it's not the rear seat that limits the travel on the sport seat. If you look closely, the door sill kicks in a bit and that is what limits the rearward travel.
On a GT3 seat you'll sit lower and deeper into the seat than you do in the sport seat. However, you'll find that there is still 3 or 4 inches of travel remaining before you get to the door sill. So all you've gained by using the deeper seat, you've lost because the seat does not go back as far. In other words, seat travel is limited by the track and bracket not the sill. You should be able to modify the bracket to allow for further seat travel-this is just my theory, I haven't actually done it and am only now just beginning to look into to it more closely.
Another consideration is the addition of a roll bar. Tall people tend to recline a bit more than others, so you'll need a roll bar that will accommodate your required seat position. Obviously the roll bar will also need to allow full rearward travel as well. This is another reason I haven't gone the GT3 seat route just yet as it doesn't recline. Again this might be solved through the use of a custom bracket.
The other option is to go aftermarket, both seat and brackets, still looking into that as well.
Hope this helps.
