Drag Times Evolution thread
Hey guys,
Well one of the things I really enjoy about racing is to see what effect my mods have on the car each time. I know I'm not the fastest, but we all don't have access to a dyno in our backyards every day so I hope this will be a somewhat beneficial thread to update to see the effect each mod has on performance.
I first took the car out in April when it was stock (only a SSK and B&M - hardly worth mentioning). Temps were 50 degrees, running VP109, and my best of the day was 12.76 @ 111.77 with highest trap of 113.38 (average 12.91 @ 111.75).
Went back to the track yesterday and got in 13 runs. Finally got the launch down, and pulled off a couple 1.8-1.9's. First 5 runs I stood on the brakes at the traps because I was told if I went over 100 I would have to get a helmet (it's still in the mail). On my 6th run I just said screw it and went full-throttle, and didn't get kicked out. The 996TT was kind of a novelty there as most of the other cars were POS Vauxhalls running 16's, so they let me stay and rip off some good runs. Way different than in the US fellas, the only thing that came close to me all day was the jet car running 6.6x @ 260-something. They made him wear a helmet.
Mods since last time are full 3" straight through exhaust w/ 100 cell race cats, AP IC pipes and BOV. MAF is fried. Temps were in the upper-70's, and I was running BP102 (RON) gas. Best time and trap of the day was on a 12.48 @ 113.17 w/ 1.94 60' time. Ran with tire pressure of 25psi all around and it made a big difference in the launch (best 60' was 1.88). Averaged 12.67 @ 112.62.
So I put all of my numbers on a spreadsheet and analyzed them (old habit). No real gain to speak of in my final MPH numbers, although the average is slightly higher (111.65 vs 112.79). The real interesting figure is that I picked up over 2mph average in the 1/8th - 86.96 vs 89.02. Also my 330-660 is where I made up the most ground (aside from my launch). Exactly the opposite of what I was expecting with the new exhaust. I was expecting to lose a little torque while gaining top-end power.
So here are some pics from the day and my timeslip (Scott, is this good enough to get me up on "the list"
). All-in-all a good day, and I'm learning more about this car all the time. Next time out I'll have ECU programming and more fuel delivery/boost, and a new MAF.

Only if you run over 100. For whatever reason they didn't flag me. All of the track officials I talked to were just pretty amused with me destroying everything on my runs. Like I said, not a lot of fast 1/4 mile cars out here.
LOL, thanks Sharky. Safety first!
What's up with my trap speed? Shouldn't I be seeing 116's stock? What about 1/8 mph, is 89 about right? Maybe a leakdown/compression test is in order. Anyway, I'm hooking up a real boost gauge next week so I might get some answers from that...

I have K16-s, alltunig chip, straight pipes and new diverter valves, and 11.804@118mph

But it need really fast shifting and good 60ft.
Jimmer if u but more pressure on tires u will get higher mph-s
And is this track glued? if yes, then 113mph is OK result for glued track...
If u don't have race file, then is no need to use race fuel it doesn't give u anything
996TT with standard wheels and tires has 1->2 gear change exactly on 60ft(mine does) so there isn't always true that 60ft time bettering 0.1sec give u 0.2sec better ET...sometime u change first gear to second @ 60ft and u get badder 60ft, but better ET...
Grat pics and rims btw (Y)

Believe me Buddy, it's even harder to relearn on the "wrong" side. Not so much driving on the wrong side, but sitting there your depth perception you've always known gets all screwed up (shifting isn't so bad tho). My rims had to be redone because I curbed them ALL within the first week of owning it! LOL!
Thanks for all the great comments guys. Next time 11's for sure!
