Evoms vs. Proto

It would be awesome to run the evoms GT800 against Scott or Marks car to see how they stack up. Since this probably won't happen Scott or Mark get us a 1/4 mile time for some general comparisons.

Obviously different track, day, temp, etc... will be hard for head to head comparison but at least it will give us a general idea. The Proto makes more hp so it should be faster but we know there are other factors.

Also what are the costs for the GT800 that ran the record vs a Proto setup like Scott or Mark have? Motor only is what I would like to know?

No disrespect but there is no point to this. There are too many other factors like weight, gearing and diffs, engine work, Trubo choice, suspension, tires and wheels, track conditon, Temperature... etc... it is a lost cause to compare.
It comes down to how hard one is willing to push the car( both is weight saving and 1/4 mile trickery). Most of p car owners are not willing to go to that extreme.

I don't know about that, Buddy. The EVOMS car weighs 550 lbs less than mine (2,800 vs 3,350)...and I'll be running 18" drag radials instead of 17" ET Streets....so I seriously doubt I'll run a faster time or trap.

But I promise I'll do my best.

P.S. - I think we can keep this civil. I have faith.

EVO stage 1 through 4 are great packages that have been made available for almost everyone. They are reliable and for most people are available through a local tuner. For GT 700's and above, I would go with Protomotive

For making really big power (I consider stage 4 very fast, anything above is really big power in my book) there is really no comparison. Protomotive builds/tunes are custom (IE not canned) packages that make more power (of course usually cost more) and are more reliable. I personally know of several blown engines and a host of problems when you get beyond stage 4 in the EVO packages.

The sub 10 GT800 was a great achievment, but it doesn't quite hold up to the top custom builds (like Marks and Scotts") that proto has done. Sorry, but that is a fact. It was a purpose built drag car, not a customer DD. Also, it is one thing to have Todd Z hand tune a GT 800, but another when that tune is done remotely.

Again, I highly recommend EVO for stage 1-4, especially now that they have solved the MAF problems. I also give top marks to many of the EVO products, like their IC's. And many of the EVO guys are outstanding individuals, but ultimately I would want Todd K to tune my car.

I am now donning my flame suit.

Most of you know me well enough that I didn't start this thread to start a battle. I know both Todd's and wouldn't hesitate to buy from either one.

Let's keep it civil and just talk about costs and performance without degrading any tuner or anyone.

Thanks!

It's funny how the Evo 996TT brakes into the 9's 1st and it is called, "Shop car" & "Test Mule". Pretty sad and makes the people saying this sound like some butthurt children. Both tuners do phenomenal work and build fast *** Porsches. It could very well have been a Proto car that got into the 9's 1st. I am sure one will do it very soon. Enjoy your cars gentlemen!

Boy, that's a really unbiased point of view Is this coming from the guy who thought that the EVOMS 9 second car was a tip?

I respectfully disagree with you. I have a GT700 with stock internals and I pretty much smoke everything I run except for TT Vipers, I have had ZERO problems.

Obviously there is a comparison, the EVOMS car trapped at 150mph...NO OTHER 996 CAN SAY THAT. What problems? Blown motors? please don't bring up DMK as he blew his motor up from negligence (go back and re-read the posts) I won't, but I know of SEVERAL Proto customers who have grenaded motors.

It doesn't hold up? Why because YOU say so? The car has stock heads, stock cams and stock pistons...can you say that about the others? Either you can't read or you selectively listen...the GT800 was an off the shelf kit with some weight taken off, how is that a purpose built drag car?

I'm sure that the crew at EVOMS can sleep well now that they have your blessing.

Ah NOT!How about if I told you that that car has a 9.40 in it just as it sits.......and i could have drove that sucker home from the track and made some quick laps around a road course in it.Fact of the matter is put 500 lbs back in it and it will still trap 145 and run 9.90s at that track,on that night.Everything just came together from track prep to driver being on the money with the shifts and launch.Todd Z did an awesome job driving that car and part of it was knowing he had only a couple of passes to do it.He works good under pressure.
