Many people attach the unit with a bracket extending under the headliner.
I personally don't care where other prople choose to mount their detector.

I mount my V1 in the center (left to right) of the windshield, as low as I can get it. I've considered the physics of both radar and laser (some of those considerations are contained in my previous posts in this thread), along with the dynamics of visual lookout/sight lines, and personally consider this location to be the best available, outside bumper mounting.

Dock,

Don't get all upset about it. I am just making a statement of what some people do with their radar detectors and why. Just a statement, not an attack.

Much of the received radar energy is reflected off the ground in front of the car and the hood. I don't think it matters if it is mounted high or low on the windshield. I think you want the laser receiver as close to the laser aiming point on your car as possible though.

Believe me, I'm not. That's one of the problems with the internet...judging tone of voice. Your assumption about my post is wrong if you think I was upset.

I run K40 and it works great...they also offer(may be past tense) a ticket rebate program if you get a ticket with it tn the first year...so they are very confident in their products.

I know how you boys seem to love your V1, but I'm inclined to leave the suction cup thing for the wife's minivan.

I feel installed is the only way to go. I have a Escort SR1 to handle radar detection (don't try to convince me how the bread-box sized, 1972 looking V1 is so much more technologically advanced. It sure looks old school to me), & a fried out Lidetek LE-20 for jamming lazer. Waiting to get an LE-30 or LE-35 when they are available. Anyone know what's up with the availability date? I've been waiting since last summer!

Mike

KEN -> you need a Lidatek Lazer jammer to complete your James Bond theme!

Anyone up on active RADAR jammers?

As far as radar goes, most high end detectors can detect the threat WAY beyond its speed reading range, so "technology" in that area is a wash.

Where the V1 earns it's money is with the bogey counter and driectional arrows.

If a driver wants the highest SA (situational awareness) available, it's the V1.

I use a V1, but I would prefer to use one of these...There in lies the rub.... :~(

Any ideas on how to do such a mount with a cab?

On a related note, Valentine must have changed suction cup suppliers. The set from my first V-1 (6-8 yrs old?) is still going strong but the ones that came with my new one won't stay up. Go figure
I do not use suction cups. My V1 came with a clip. I uncliped part of the headliner by pulling down on it. I slid the clip in and clipped the headliner back in. I then stuck a piece of velcro on the end of the clip to ensure no movement. I also crimped the clip. I got all these tips from Poursha. My set-up is exactly like the one Poursha shows above in pics. Hope that clarifies things.

Lou
