State emissions testing

Georgia's emissions testing includes a run on a dyno while hooked up to the testing equipment. We may be the only states that does this, but just in case there are others here is my question: What do they do with an AWD Porsche since the dynos are all RWD units?

My car has been exempt from emissions testing the last two years, so I'm approaching my first time through the process.

they have dynos in CA too, but any fulltime AWD car doesn't
have to get dyno'ed. It just has to pass the older test.

Depends on the facility in both Missouri and Colorado (and where you live, certain areas have safety only).

If they have an AWD dyno -- you must use it. If they don't you just get the tailpipe sniffer at idle.

Thanks.

I'm wondering how a Turbo with 100 cell cats would do? I haven't heard of any Turbo owners with modified exhausts busting the test though.

I am a state certified Motor Vehicle Insp. station in NJ and 96 and up cars receive an OBD2 test through the ALDL connector, AWD cars are exempt to dyno tests no matter what year they are

In Calif. the awd only requires the tailpipe test. We have tested as we have gone along. As long as the afr's are good there has not been any problems.

So if I get EVO Stage II and EP II Loud, I should be OK...in theory.

I don't believe you will will have any problems. I would ask Todd or Stephen. I know Stephen runs a little richer that I do.

I registered my car in an exempt county (it is great when you have family in Rome, GA)
How did the county Rome is in get an exemption? Good deal for you.

Thanks for the heads-up on the testing. I don't have the exhaust yet, and I might wait until after my emissions testing due month in August to order and install it.

Since when did NY do emissions testing and for that matter on a dyno??? In upstate, it's only safety inspections...As far as those in states that require emissions, if the car is OBD2 compliant, even with an aftermarket exhaust, there should not be a problem...after all the O2 sensors will throw a cell if there is a problem. I would think it would be reasonable to assume that if you are not throwing a cell with the O2/Lamda sensor setup, you should pass emissions...Just my two cents...

This area of Texas is considered a high pollution county with stricter emissions testing and oxygenated gasoline. Most cars are run on the dyno. They just hooked the turbo up to the OBD II tester to look for error codes. I don't remember if they tested the tailpipe emissions. All full time 4wd are exempt from the dyno test. They failed my 1983 ranch truck because it was missing the cold air inlet hose that went from the air filter snorkle to the radiator area. Don't admit to ANYTHING that is not stock.
The cats will work better if they are hot.

Re: Re: State emissions testing

I would imagine that all of NY has the same system, anyhow Im on Long Island and after 2yrs your car goes on the dyno except if it is AWD, this I am sure of because I just experienced it last weekend.
