Philips HID Bulbs! 6000K

Have to say if your bulbs aren't bright enough, try these on for size. Easy upgrade and install. These are real HID bulbs. These worked great in our 996. Compare the bulbs. You'll see the difference immediately. Let me know if you're interested. e-mail me or PM me for more information.

Isnt this really more of a cosmetic thing than actually improving night time visibility?

There are a lot of guys running aftermarket 6K+ HIDS with projector headlamps which do not improve visibility over the standard 4K HIDS.

There was a write up on this floating around somewhere that went into great detail on how the standard oem HID bulbs were better than the aftermarket bluish HIDs in terms of visibility.

With that said, if you can prove me wrong, I would like to know more details about cost, etc.

BCS996TT, you are correct.

Although the color temperature is higher on the 6,000 Kelvin bulbs, the LUMEN output is about 20% lower. Meaning it's actually approx. 20% less bright. The best color temperature is about 4,100 - 4,300K which is what the stock HID's are rated at.

However, I can safely say that the 6000K bulbs look SUPER PIMP and MAY be worth putting in if you like the look. If you go with 6000K bulbs, you should ALWAYS get genuine Phillips bulbs and not some no name ones. I would even stay away from Osram as their bulbs are not as good as Phillips bulbs.

I would personally prefer to keep the stock bulbs. If I slammed into some debris on the road at night because the 6000K bulbs didn't light the road up properly, I'd be really upset. =)

How about going with Philips 5000k DS2 xenons and the HID 5000k H3 fogs, will they match, can/will the fogs melt the casing?

Its cosmetic. It looks bluer than the standard 4150 HID bulbs that are standard. I want the fogs to match. Right now I have PIAA 4150k hid fogs, but, they do not match.

thought u went with the 4300K. i know the 4150k doesn't match & 4300k is the perfect match.

Don't buy the bulbs unless you want you lights do be not as bright.

I posted this about 4 months ago.

The color temp is not the brightness of the light is only refering to what the light color is on a light spectrum, the lumunes is what is the factor of brightness.

A standard Philips or Osram Sylvania D2S bulb is rated at 4100K color temp but produces 3200lm +/- 450lm, while a 6000K bulb is rated at 2500lm +/- 450, and the best halogen bulb a H7 produces 3200K Temp and 1335lm @ 12.8V.

This is from a tread I posted on the 996 section:

When looking at a 12000K head on...it appears brighter because the short, medium and long cones in your eyes all have hypersensitivity in the blue wavelength range. Also the higher composition of blue wavelengths tend to radially disperse in the atmosphere which comes out in two ways: glare and decreased amount of usable light along the intended trajectory of the beam due to radila distribution. Also...blue reflects more off of wet surfaces...making them not ideal for adverse situations. Blue is not a color to drive with...fortunately its only a side effect of our OEM projectors and not a constituent to the body of the beam pattern.

I hope I saved you some trouble in the future.

But as KJM3 said if you want the look go with it. The bulbs are Philips and that is the only company that makes a good quality 6000K bulb.
