Anyone ever have/drive a Ferrari 456M?

We just got offered a 456M GT (i think that's the designation...whatever the last models of them were) with only 4500 miles on it. I suspect we could get it at a really good price.

Anyone ever have one of these? Are they nice cars? Worth buying? At what price is it a very good deal?

-Steve

The F456 is the predecessor of the new F612 Scaglietti. I'm pretty sure that prices for the 456 will significantly drop during the next couple of months.
It's a very good ride though and a true GT-car, offering enough space for 4 people (2+2 seater). The offered automatic transmission fits the 456 concept.

thanks, i'm really looking for real world experience though.

Is it fast? Fun to drive? True ferrari/exotic feel or dumbed down? Good ride? Reliable enough to use daily? Super high maintenance costs? etc.

I don't have a 456 myself, but a friend from South Germany has had one for more than 3 years.
Super high mainenance costs is about the only thing it has in common with most other Ferraris. The 456 feels almost sedan-like and is pretty heavy for a sportscar. It is reliable enough to use it daily... and yea, it's fast (since it is a Ferrari, this is an obvious thing, isn't it?)... but it's not as fast as you would expect it from looking at the power specs. That's also why I think that an automatic transmission fits the concept of the 456. It's _definitely_ way more a comfy everyday car, than a hardcore racer.

One thing is sure, if you plan on selling it "soon", you'll lose a lot of $$$. 4 seater Ferraris never kept a good value ...

I've ridden in a few, and they're nice cars. Very pretty and elegant, but kind of dull for a Ferrari IMHO and still overpriced for what they are.

i mean if it came down to a 456 or a 6-series BMW i don't know that i could take the bimmer. That's my thought process with it.

It's unique and pretty, i guess my main worry is maintenance costs. I don't want a daily driver that i'm afraid to drive.

My boss let me drive his brand new 456GTA (auto tranny).

Upside: There's nothing quite like driving a V12, that's for sure! Feels like you're going to launch up and take flight when you mash the gas pedal. Great Fcar if you prefer to be more low key.

Downside: Maintenance on it is horrible. In fact it ended up being so bad that my boss GAVE the car away after a few years to a business associate because he didn't want to deal with all the constant maintenance repairs.

Watch out for the tranny and windows. the 550-575 is a much better car, but a 2 seater. The lines are a lot better than the 612 which is UGLY.
