the IS300 has the same engine as the Supra (w/ some differences) so it had *some* possibility of being a legitimate threat, particularly w/ the IC & turbo.

My buddy did some research locally,

Car has 400 whp and is the fastest one in town, and yes as
Chuck said, they do have potential and would give a stocker a real good
run for their money (in a straight line only). The owner admitted running
me and had compliments towards me and my car about what went down.
