Falken RT-615 Experiences?

Anyone care to weigh in on these shoes? I have a 996tt. Want them for the street but also the occasional track day if the weather keeps me from using my Sport Cups. Met a guy at a recent track event that was really happy with them.

I'd give it a shot. They are very cheap in price, and a lot of the import guys have had great success with them. They will grip like crazy in the dry for sure, in the wet, who knows. But in the end, if they suck hard in the wet, your "risk" wasn't that high in the first place. At least they're better than MPSC in the wet.

I'd also be interested in any comments 6speeders have on these tires.

I have these on my gti and s4.

The 996tt is a little heavy for this tire. They work GREAT cold/slightly warm but actually get a bit slick when they are over heated.

For day to day street performance they work well.
For auto-x they work VERY well.
For any track use, you will run through a set of them in ~1 day.

Couldn't have said it better.
A LOT of guys use these in autocross so they can stay in certain classes as their tread blocks are huge, and the tires are sticky from the start. They're also a bit iffy in the rain. I've never ran them, so I'm only going from experience of several others. I REALLY wish they had Bridgestone Potenza RE11's in our sizes (especially a 235/315 combo for my new wheels) as these tires are amazing.

According directly from Falken, they don't have any street tire for the rear of our cars, that's one main reason they pulld an ad off their media blast in circa 07'~08'.

falkens are decent, but they're old news. if you want dry and wet performance, give the hankook v12 ventus a try or dunlop star spec's. im running the hankooks on my GTI and i like them more than the falkens.

I wouldn't even put those two tires in the same class, particularly when it comes to dry grip.

Look at what the serious street tire class autocrosser are running.
-Advan AD08
-Bridgestone RE01 or RE11
-Kumho Ecsta XS
-Dunlop Star Spec
-Hankook RS2 or RS3
-Falken RT615
-Toyo R1R

You won't find any serious street tire competitor running the Ventus V12 Evo.

yeah, well it seems i'm not the only one who thinks they're in the same class... check this tire comparison out done by car and driver magazine.

That comparison tested a pretty wide range of tires. Just because they're being compared doesn't mean they're in the same class.

There's no arguing that the V12 Evo is a Max Performance Summer tire while all the tires I listed are Extreme Performance Summers.

perhaps you lack reading comprehension...

OP wants a street tire with wet performance in case he isn't able to use his dedicated track tires.

lets reference the article i linked since my hundreds of track days and over 10 years of racing and tuning cars mean nothing to you... these tires offer more dry grip and braking than the Falkens and turns the same dry autoX times. wet times are right at the top, just trailing the star specs. the star specs are better in every performance aspect, however the ride is a bit harsher and the tire is a bit noisier. both the falkens and dunlops cost more than the hankooks. in my opinion, that makes hankook v12's the best street tire for the money... and certainly the best tire for the OP.

Fair enough. I was only pointing out the different tire class and listing what I'd consider comparable class tires to the OPs was originally considering (RT615).

I daily drive the Dunlop on my non-Porsche and autocross it on a regular basis. I've been very pleased with its performance.

Have them for whatever minor street use duty that I put my car through...used them once up at Lime Rock in the dry and they were pretty dissappointing, quite squirrelly and slick after a few laps. I changed to my sport cups (yea, I know, totally different class) and the guys I was running with thought there was a different driver in the car

Did use them in the rain at the Glen and they were actually pretty good but I certainly wasn't pushing it too hard.

They are on the heavier side in terms of weight too compared to the OEM Pirelli's.

I will go with something new when these are done.
