My lady and I was having breakfast at Gayles in Capitola on Saturday morning and a gentleman came in with a 996TT black on black. He was selling the machine and waiting for a couple to meet and show it to.. Needless to say that machine was filthy with hairline scratch marks all over the outside paint area. They were looking at the car and he popped the engine lid and it was absolutely terrible looking with mud and dirt everywhere... It took about two minutes and the couple came back in and sat next to us. I started up a conversation with them and introduced them to 6speed and ask how they liked the car? The female proceeded to tell me that it was the dirtiest car she had looked at to date and the husband explained he could get beyond that but the decision was hers'. They passed on the car and she had said if he had only tried to detail and present it alittle better she may have bought it.. Sure wish I could have had two hours with that machine and it would have sold immediately.
The moral of the story is, we the 6speed family, try always to present our machines with pride of ownership.. Hope it wasn't a family member selling, if it was this could be some feedback to judge your behavior..

The point is not if you wash and detail the car when you are readying it for sale....
Do you wash and detail a car when you know it will rain the next day?
How about Friday night if your just going to take a 150 mile drive and splatter bugs on it over the weekend and still wash it when you get home on Sunday?
It is just stupid to try and sell it dirty. It speaks of either a subconscious desire not to sell or an owner who deserves trade in value...

Agreed smoothcab. If I was looking at a car and a seller showed up with a dirty car, there's no way I'd buy it. If someone doesn't have enough respect to wash their car for a scheduled meeting with a potential buyer, can you imagine how he/she treats it on a daily basis?

Yes, I would wash and detail my machine if I knew if was going to rain the next day!! I don't put the machines back in their stalls dirty. If it rains the next day I just won't bring em out. Their not my daily drivers.
Not sure the intention of the next question but the answer once again is Yes, I would never go on a 150 mile ride with my machines dirty worrying about bugs on them, and yes I would wash and detail when I returned before they were put away. Not sure Buddy if your slamming me or what. This was just my observation of a gentleman that did not have his priorities straight and it cost him a sure fire sale.. Either way, there you have it in a nutshell..

I wholeheartedly agree with you- and I was expanding the scope to comment on how important some of us find clean cars... expanding past the 'just when you are going to sell it' point to 'anytime you are driving it'!
We are on the same page for sure and sorry if my quick note came off the wrong way!

I agree titally. If you have something to sell, be a Salesman and present it in the situation possible. Show some respect to the potential buyer by having respect for the product you are selling.
You guys hit the nail on the head. I've been preaching to everyone the same thing. When you're selling ANY car, spend a few $$ and get it detailed. The dividends far out way the cost. A Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, etc. should be held at a higher standard. Well cared for cars will always fetch more bucks. I have clients that will spend close to $1K, sometimes much more, for a detail knowing that it will come back 2-5 fold. I don't recommend neglecting a car and getting someone like me to spend 14 hours reconditioning years of neglect. A proper detail twice a year will do the trick. You'll enjoy the look and feel and accentuate the ownership experience. The next owner will also be buying a well cared for auto. So moral of the story is selling a car is a lot like selling a home. If you do the upgrades but don't have curb appeal, you'll never get top $$.
