Talking Suggested Right Height for City Driving

Hey Guys!

I finally gave in! I am swapping the JRZs for a set of H&R street coilovers since my "girlfriend" was giving me so much c*ap about how "uncomfortable" it was to ride in my car

anyways, my car was pretty low with the JRZs before and my TechArt front bumper was scrapping on driveways, entrances to malls, anything that was inclined, i would hear the "crussshhhhhh" sound...

any suggestions on ride height for city driving? i talked to protosport in NJ (the shop installing the h&rs) and they recommended an inch lower front and rear than OEM ride height. this will be my daily drive into the new york city and i will have a carbon fiber GTS lower lip on the car. how does that sound guys? i'll be running 19" TechArts with this setup. thanks for the feedback!

just to share, this was the ride height before when i got slaughtered:

Why do you put 'girlfriend' in quotes? Planning on a replacement there too?

I have mine set to GT2 specs and havnt really had any issues (i'm fairly careful). my driveway has a big curb and I go over railroad tracks & inclines on a daily basis. Havn't scraped or bottomed out yet.

yah.. if she complains any more... i may need some advise on a replacement =)

but i don't blame her... she does have a point... JRZ track setup in the city is kindof harash.

Hi Jason,

Can't help with the ride height (my car still sits at the stock height...argh), but your car looks great. Love the silver Tech Art wheels with the Seal Grey.

Cheers,
Scott

This car is set within the GT3 spec range and happens to be 109 /120, F/R.
It is a daily city driver and I'm used to it.....but admit it takes attention for inclines & ramps.....something you get accustomed to......BTW, noise is the reason my wife won't ride with me .

Mine set a tap lower than GT2 ride height. No problem with city drive. But for your case, New York city + TA front + GTS CF lip = order 5 lips at a time even with stock ride height

I think 1 inch will be the max and I bet it will still scrapping everywhere.

I also had my '02 turbo set to GT2 ride height but it was constantly scraping now matter how careful I was so I had it set approx half way between stock and GT2 height. This seemed to work well. Sold the car last year and saw a similar silver turbo today. I miss that car!

X-73 ride height is perfect for all around, city and track duty.
I just bought a new front lip and never scrape it (almost never)

I ride my 996 TT stock height and my plastic front spoiler still gets a beat down...be careful when you leave indoor garages.. also, i would not recommend anyone installing 19' in manhattan cuz you cannot avoid crater size potholes..

Hi GreggT,

Where are you taking the measurements of 109 and 120? Do you know how much this differs from GT2 ride height, and do you, or does anyone else know where the measuring points are located; the ones that might be used by someone trying to set up to factory spec?

thanks.

I ride mine 30mm lower than stock, about 1.25" and I never scrape in the city. I believe the techart bumper hangs lower than the stocker though, so I'd probably go with 1" to be sure.
