Final Report: Brainerd Track Event PE700!
Final Report: Brainerd Track Event PE700!
I attended the Suburban Corvettes of Minnesota Brainerd Track Event
last Thursday the 13th.
Prep: I had new drop links put on front and rear, corner balance and alignment. (My car weighed 3360 with 1/3 tank of gas and my new harnesses
in). With my new Brembo 6 piston monoblocks, I do not even need to run race pads, the streets work fine.
Myself and a 07 Z06 drove up together the night before and never sped or
passed anybody at all
.
Track day was cloudy and sprinkling in the morning. I was put in fastest run
group due to previous times established (1:52.2) with (3) trailered Mustang Race Cars from Milwaukee, 1 black modded C5 Z06 on Slicks, and a couple of other cars including the star of the event, my good friend with a 99 Viper GTS Coupe (Roe SuperCharger, Meth inj, suspension, brakes, etc).
It went dry and we went out to warm up our tires and for me get used to
driving on Michelin PS2 street tires again.
Top Straightaway speed while doing a lap (on St. Paul Policeman's police radar gun): That would be me @ 166 mph
Best Lap time of day: 1:50.5 my buddy Keith in his 99 Viper
Next Best Lap time: (Me @ 1:51)
Rookie of the event best lap time: my buddy in New Z06 on RunCraps: 1:55.5
My car ran all day long at full tilt (peak 1.4 bar, hold 1.3 bar) on race gas,
Never got hot, never missed a beat, never touched the car other than lowering the tire pressures from my street pressures.
A little Woodster humour:
1) after first track session, I went to talk to the cheeseheads with the blown
Mustangs and the modded C5 Z06: Corvette driver: " I was hanging with you pretty well on the straights" My response was "Not in that thing you werent, in fact nobody here can including the Blue/white Ford GT with the 2.75" pulley! For the next session I thought it might be "fun" to line up behind C5
Z06 and (3) very fast not street driven mustangs. By the end of turns 3-10
I was up in thier face and all three waved me by in the front long straight
so that I didnt rear end them at a 20 mph differential! Ah, no he was not
"hangin with me"
2) *** Clown Award
went to braggert with C4 Lingfelter 427 Corvette on trailor who was caught bragging the night before: His first lap he went off
twice and rear ended the wall on front straight producing blue fiberglass dust
and such--not good.
All in all a good time: (2) Ford GT's, (1) new Gallardo (5) new Z06's and (1)
2008 Corvette (now 230 hp). (1) 2006 Viper Coupe (they only made this coupe body style 1 year). The Z06's are awesome out of the box. We drove home with the Viper Club and I was seen leading them down the 371 towards
Mpls...
Cheers.

Just got home; good time had by all. All cars are safe and drivers did an excellent job. Yes, Keith was flying; Marty was flying in the porsche [this car really has a lot of power; i have never seen a street car pull on the straight like that] Ron was flying around so fast that a novice asked him for instruction which he gladly gave. A few drops in the morning otherwise no rain......oh, how did I do you ask? well, you will have to ask my sources!......not one but 2 FORD GT's up there and they really do sound terrific; a novice from Wood bury brought up his v-10 LAMBO; this thing revs to 8200 rpm...my goodness what a car; you could hear this thing screaming 4 turns away. all in all a great relaxing day had by all.

Sounds like a blast Marty nice job!
That is funny about the guy saying how fast you came down the straight. The Lingenfelter Vette at Grattan said the same thing he couldn't believe how fast I was catching him on the straight away!
Gotta love that boosted power!

Awesome, It's looking like I'll have plenty of corvettes for our track day at VIR next year, I hope you guys can make it, I think it would be an awesome event, and evenly matched too, we do have quite a few VERY FAST Turbo Drivers here.
If I talk enough smack, they'll show up in droves. Just waiting for the date.

Brainerd is a track that makes cars like mine (with average drivers like me) look like
hero cars. That soon will change with the new track layout which will be more technically difficult. It is much harder to drive a GT2 fast around this track (Luis Sr.)
than for me to go around fast in my 996TT with all wheel drive and PSM (although that
can work against you as well)
