Now that have completed the "performance mods" on my car. I need advice regarding the radio, amp and speakers.

I am having a setup similar to the one you describe installed this wednesday. Alpine headunit, JL 500/1 amp running 3 JL 8W3 subwoofers. (component speakers to come later)

I checked out a few different HU and the best sounding ones I found were either the Alpine or the Eclipse units. The eclipse was somewhat more expensive though and I prefer the alpine interface.

Amp-wise, alpine is good, but will not put out as much power nor sound as good as a JL unit can. If it is just for the component speakers im sure it will sound great. However for a subwoofer I would go with JL. I have been to many shops and almost all of them prefer the JL 500/1 amp. (its the best selling amp in north america for a reason)

You cant go wrong with either JL or MB speakers. (however for subwoofers i would definitely lean towards JL and stick to the W3 series or higher. get W6 if you can)

Hope that helps, the install in my car will be finished by next weekend, so I will be posting some pics once it is complete in the 996 forum.

Orli:

You have MOST right? Does this mean your willing to remove and rewire almost everything?

I'm too cheap, too lazy, and don't want the extra weight although I agree, the stock stereo absolutley blows, especially the subs!

http://www.caraudioinnovations.com/ try this guys sub for the back deck behing the rear seats. doesnt interfere with seating and it will make your hair stand on end. i ordered the sub from him and had my local shop install it with a soundstream 1000w amp under my hood. also kenwood head unit with flipup screen and dvd. all mb quart speakers replaced into stock locations system sounds awesome. with all types of music.

im not loving my flip screen i prefer a screen that stays fixed like the 6speed member with the alpine setup and the scanner and cb behind it. even with the scanner etc. that location for the screen and head unit is more ideal.

i checked car audio innovations but his enclosure/sub prices are a little on the high end. I am having my own custom fiberglass enclosure made by a local shop for considerably less $$. You can always check local prices on having a custom box made, and if they can do it for cheaper you can always use pictures of ones you have seen on the internet as a basis of what you want it to look like.

Hey Orlando,

I had a local shop in Ft. Myers replace the stock HiFi system in my old C2.

Go for a 3 way component system up front. I used the JL Audio xr653cs 3 way system that consists of a 6.5" driver mounted on a custom baffle in the doors, and a 4" and tweeter that drops into the dash locations. I ran a JL xr400cx 4" coaxial in the back locations for rear fill, but I would not bother as they are not heard. Subs are up to you... I had two JL 8" subs mounted behind the back seats. I had it all powered with a JL Audio amp (500/5) running through an Eclipse headunit.

Do not worry about the MOST system if you are planning on installing a whole new system. You would want to run fresh power lines and speaker cable anyways. Only if you are trying to integrate aftermarket components with the factory system does MOST present a problem. Give me a call if you want some more info.
